Hi all! I'm new to the site. I used to get backgrounds and artwork for my OS from DeskMod. But they are no longer around and I've been searching for a place with artwork that I really like. I've been on Devianart but there is quite a bit to sort through to get to the stuff I like. This site rocks. I've already grabbed some wallpapers and icons. I found the site while trying to locate the Alienware "Alien" glyph font. It's nice to see a large number of Alienware inspired graphics here.

Here are my system specs:

Alienware M17x in Space Black
Intel Core i7 820QM Quad core 1.73GHz - 3.06GHz turbo, 8MB cache
8 GB Dual Channel DDR3 / 133MHz Ram
17" Wide UXGA 1920 x 1200 (1200p) screen
Alienware 2210 21" Full HD monitor (1920 x 1080 HD) as second monitor with Desktop extended vertically from Laptop to Monitor
Crossfire 1GB ATI Radeon Mobility HD5870 graphics card (Dual GP's on a single card)
512GB Raid 0 (2 x 256GB Solid State HDDs)
Dual boot Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit / Ubuntu 10.1 64 bit
Various external hard drives for storage ( mostly music but graphics also)
Microsoft ArcMouse [an amazingly simple and comfortable mouse to use IMHO]

The computer was originally built by my brother, though I did replace the Motherboard as the original one stopped working and fitted a new fan and heatsink for the CPU.
Somewhat a budget computer really, soon as I get a decent job I'll start to build a better system. :)

Case: Jeantech Unicorn
Motherboard: ASUS P5Q Deluxe
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 2.333GHz - Overclocked to 3.2 GHz when needed
CPU Fan: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 + Few case fans
Memory: OCZ Reaper HPC OCZ2RPR8001G (2x1GB)
Graphics Card: nVidia 9500GT 512MB
Power Supply: Jeantech Storm 700w
Monitor: Hanns-G HW173A @ 1400x1050
Mouse: Razer Diamondback 3G
Keyboard: Logitech G11
Speakers: Advent 2.0 PC Speakers (Don't need a decent set as I don't really use them)
Headset: Creative Fatal1ty Gaming Headset
Disk Drive: Hitachi HDP725050GLA360 ATA Device (500 GB, 7200 RPM, SATA-II)
Optical (CD) Drive: HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22LP20
External HDD: SUMOdisk 500GB
Operating Sysyem: Dual boot: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 & LinuxMint 10.10
Wireless: Linksys WUSB600N Rev2 Wireless-N USB Adapter
Webcam: Microsoft VX-6000

Scored 5.3 on the Windows Experience Index. Graphics for Windows Aero was the lowest. Not bad really since it all cost me £100.

yeah correct bud if my memory serves me right and what i been told the 6970 was made more to compete with a 570 or 580  Just like AMD made a 6930 to "Get on NVIDIA's level" 6970 is a pretty powerful card ;):cool:P.S. It doesn't compete with a 580 though but maybe it does with a 570

i think of buying a video card right now, but i have to choose between the 420GT(1024mb) or the 580GT(512mb). which one would be better bud? you see the 420 goes up to dx10 but the 520 up to dx11. but on the other hand the 420 has 1gb of memory and the 580 has 512mb memory. Another thing is that the 420 doesn't support SLI but the 580 does.
which one? i would pick the 580

Ooh! I think I'm gonna like this thread. Well Let me post my specs at least:

Code name "Adelaide"
Operating system: Win7
Processor: Intel i3 (Going to pick up an i7 2700K soon for a bargain price)
RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengeance (going to upgrade to 16 when I get a new motherboard, The other sticks are just in the box waiting until then)
Motherboard: I have no Idea, It came with The Lenovo I bought Before upgrading to my new build.
Case: NZXT Phantom Full tower Black and Green
HDD: 1TB (soon to upgrade to 1TB Caviar Black)
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 560Ti
Power Supply: Corsair GS600

This is all a work in progress, I plan on moving up with a new motherboard, Processor, Power supply, and some other goodies later. Maybe if I feel like it I will go SLI wiht my graphics card. The new motehrboard I'm going to get supports 2 PCI-E at X16 speed going SLI, so I can still get some serious Juice out of those cards. Well that is if I don't decide to save money and wait to get the new GTX 680 instead. My friend is scared my computer will rise up against me and take over my home if I keep this up.

but i'll always had AMD and ATI donno why realy :) my dad is a Intel Nvidia fan, and has a 8core beast down in his basement, running a wondows server 2008 R2 :) but i'm there fixing it maybe twise a week, for errors, and HW bugs, so thats why i dont think much of Intel :D hehe

woot woot move aside intel fanboys the AMD train is coming through woot woot lmao lmao Despite what some people will tell you, I would not go with an AMD. AMD used to be nice because it was considered a cheaper alternative to Intel that would still get you pretty decent performance. That's not really the case anymore though, because their newest processors aren't much of an improvement over their last generation of processors. They're best 8-core cpu barely keeps up with the Intel i5 2500K, and it's more expensive. However i am no AMD hater i like the
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition the rest i don't care for nor am i impressed !!! lmao

Not sure there's a ton you can do with laptops. Possibly check for BIOS updates, see if you can change ram speed or timings in BIOS and maybe try a little overclock. Not sure how far they will let you go or how it will handle the extra heat. Only other ways I would think would be upgrading to faster ram if the system allows and swapping the HDD for a SSD...pretty much get what ya get with em

Highly recommend the H100i.. Keeps my CPU well below max temps.. There are a few online that have complaints that the fans eventually make loud noise, so far they've sounded like they had a slight buzz at times, but that was only when I was really taxing the system via gaming so I'm only assuming they were as high as they could go.. They got quiet once I wasn't gaming anymore.. My CPU usually stays around 50-60F when on normal use, highest it's gotten is 98F and the max is 143F. Lately it hasn't been going over 87F though so it's way well below max.. :) It's easy to install and you don't have to worry about a huge fan getting in the way of anything. Just make sure your case can handle the duel fan radiator as it's somewhat heavy and big. Mine is located at the top underneath my two 230mm exhaust fans. You can kinda see it on the image below:

Thanks for the info bud, yeah i could probably fit it up un place off my xiggy fans on the top. My dark knight cooler has lasted and performed pretty well up till lately. It gets quite noisey when its spinning up past 1600rpm, and i notice that more now since i got the second gpu.

Thanks for the info bud, yeah i could probably fit it up un place off my xiggy fans on the top. My dark knight cooler has lasted and performed pretty well up till lately. It gets quite noisey when its spinning up past 1600rpm, and i notice that more now since i got the second gpu.

CPU: AMD FX8350
Cooler: Xigmatek Dark Knight
Compound: Arctic Cooling MX4
Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth 990fx R2.0 TUF
RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance LP 1600Mhz
GPU: 2x 2GB Sapphire HD7870's
PSU: Xigmatek 1000w Centauro
CASE: Coolermaster HAF XM
Keyboard/Mouse: CM Storm Devastator mouse and keyboard.

You may be able to fit it under those two fans.. Looks like there's holes made for that purpose possibly.. You and I have very similar setups.. You have the 8350 and two GPU's, I've got the 8320 and one GPU.. Same motherboard just a different name brand.. RAM different name brand and mine is 1866MHZ.. We both have the same exact keyboard and mouse lol.. I think only big difference is the case, mine is a full tower and yours appears to be a mid-tower.. If you can't fit the cooler on the top, you might have to go with the single fan cooler to be able to fit it.. Otherwise, you'd have to find a way to attach it on the outside and run the tubes into the case, but that might make things a bit more difficult for you as you may have to take the tubing apart to do it, which, depending on your experience in liquid coolers could get a bit challenging :p

yeah its a mid tower, i had a HAF 932 before this one, looking to get another full size tower before the year is out. I have no experience in watercoolers lol, i think it should fit in the top there, i'l do plenty research before i make a full decision.
Been looking at this nepton 280 too

Ah.. Underclocking.. Yeah I have no need for that at the moment.. I've got an 800W PSU and have plenty of wattage left over even while overclocking.. :) I heard a few negatives about the Cooler Master liquid cooler, but not more than most of the others.. Reason I went with Corsair H100i is because the reviews were higher than most of the rest.. The only complaints I saw was the fan buzz on some of them, but that's a really cheap fix. A better fix in my opinion than some of the other cooler complaints where there were leakage on some and DOA's for others.. Before I built my current PC I spent 7 or 8 months researching all the parts of my computer.. I looked at reviews, I looked at tech specs, I looked at benchmarks, I looked at compatibility, I looked at design and airflow ideas.. You name it I researched it and had everything in mind before I even attempted to purchase anything for my computer. Granted the only thing I didn't look at was the massive size of my computer case as that thing is quite HUGE, the design of the case and the airflow was exactly what I was looking for. Thus, my computer stays well below max temps.. There's literally cold/cool air coming out the top of my computer case :)

If you are looking for a full tower I would suggest the one I have or similar.. I've got the AzzA Hurricane 2000 (Blue).. Keep in mind it's huge, but I thought the quality was quite good. It's not a case for the pro's but it's a better case than the newbies.. More like a mid-quality case. The only complaint that was on the case which I ended up experiencing was the front panel was DOA and I didn't discover this until after I put the computer together. But no worries, AzzA sent me another panel instead of RMA of the whole case. Sent it for free with free shipping.. Took a few days to get to me.. Installing was somewhat a pain, but wasn't bad since it was a one time thing.. Gotta take off the top panel where the two 230mm fans are located and wedge yourself in the case to get it reattached.. Took about an hour to do, but was worth it.. :)

You say you don't have experience with water coolers, before I built my PC I had never built a PC before so was the first time for me too.. But, this is why I urge people to research, research, research.. If I'd just jumped in like most people do these days I'd be RMA on so many parts and hitting so many issues I'd probably given up long by now. Best advice I can give, don't jump into it.. And don't just take my word for it, really look into it.. Because what works for me may not work for you.. It's gotta fit your building style and match your lifestyle. Weigh out the pro's and the con's for EVERYTHING. See what you are willing to go through just in case something doesn't quite go as planned. The H100i has been the best decision for my CPU so far but then again, it works for my case too.. You might be better with the single fan cooler, or the duel.. Depends on what you build, how you build, and how your lifestyle takes you along.. :)

EDIT: Oh my.. Apologies for the book lol.. When I get a thought in my head, I find it hard to stop at times :p

So this may be the wrong place to ask but since it was about specs i figured it couldn't hurt to ask. If there is a better place to post this i will do so if told to and where. Ok I'm done with Imac at this point after finding out all the customizing that can be done with PC. Now the fun / madness comes with a 1st build. I've done some research and watched some videos on all the things that goes into building. Its well known that everyone has a opinion on whats better all across the board. I'm working with a set amount of money at the moment and know I'm not going to set the world on fire with the beginning of this build just want to get a decent machine for the money i have 71553and i will upgrade when possible. Just was wondering on your thoughts on what I've come up with so far. Any suggestions do's and dont's would be great. This PC. will be used for gaming,Pro-tools music track recording and video editing for music videos along with day to day use on the net. Here's what I've come up with while trying to maintain a blue internal theme. And just so you know....You guys did this to me with all your theming and pc talk so blame yourselves for my questions.

looks like a nice setup. I would use a separate drive for storage and music editing and ssd for windows only.

Yeah I'll probably get a Tb something at some point. And I also should get a cpu cooler because from what I hear amd's get a bit warmer then Intel or is that only when oc is done? And is there anything I can downgrade on to bring ny build cost down without giving up to much. And still having a decent machine?

the stock cooler works fine, even with a moderate over clocking. To lower your price.. just a different case or video card depending on what type of gaming you do.Case wise, I personally like Corsair, but that is all up to user choice.

It's an homemade pc, so I upgrade when it becomes slow, looking the compromise between price/power lol

CPU: Fx 8320 octacore with turbocore enabled and thermaltake with x2 92mm fans (the old stock was sufficent for boiling eggs lol)
GPU: Radeon R7 370 Nitro 4 gb GDDR5 slightly OC.
MEM: 8 gb DDR3 @ 1333 (4gb corsair + 4gb kingston)
PSU: 700w cooler master
HDD: 2 tb sata2 + 1 tb usb 3 + 500 gb usb3
CASE: A simple atx that I'm using since ages
DISPLAY: LG tv 32'' on hdmi (1920x1080)
AUDIO: Via mobo, pretty sure it's a new release of realtek audio
SPEAKER: Trust 2.1
Old ps/2 logitech keyboard (Big buttons and easy cleaning via unmounting it)
Zelotes usb mouse 5500 DPI

My ole' girl is still holding up well.. I was thinking of building another one, but with newer parts.. Still x58 and it's running a first gen titan. Might just upgrade the graphics to my current rig until I can assemble all the parts for an up to date build. The xeon in it runs well and it's nice having the 6 cores, still does really well in testing. Frickin expensive to be on the cutting edge though so I tend to do a couple gens back and go for better from then. That and and a good case and what not.. I so want an I9 though...

More than 10 years ago I used to break on xtrem systemes forums overcloked CPU ( E6200 etc and so long up to 4 ghz )
I bought several times engineer CPU on ebay sold by Chinese ah ah 500$ I was a young crazy man damn expensive before they reach public release :)
under air cooling :) Burned several Nvidia 9600 lol too

One of my best O/C on E8400 up to 4.8 ghz air cooling ^^ ( 2008 )

http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=362603

Now my proud is to keep as long as my needs hardware :

- intel core i5 2400 ( 2011 released) ( 1.6 ghz idle up to 3.2 ghz load ) 4 cores not overcloked
- nvidia GTX 1650 unmodded
- Motherboard asus P8P67 vanilla ( 2011 released )
- 20 giga RAM Corsair Vengeance DDR 3 1600 Mhz
- case Coolmaster COSMOS S ( 2008 )
- creative sounblaster XFI platinum ( more than 13 yo ah ah to plug my electric Ibanez guitar )
- 3 Samsung SSD ( 840 & 850 Pro ) the only hardware upgrade I recommend to friends and close to feel real upgrade on speed ^^

I stopped for years making comp manufacturers rich with my money and I still can play my favorites games , music with few upgrades ;) that's cool

GeForce RTX 30 Series Performance Accelerates With Resizable BAR Support
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/geforce-rtx-30-series-resizable-bar-support/ (https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/geforce-rtx-30-series-resizable-bar-support/)
Resizable BAR utilizes an advanced feature of PCI Express to increase performance in certain games.
As of March 30th, 2021, Resizable BAR is supported for GeForce RTX 30 Series graphics cards and laptops.
For desktops to take advantage of Resizable BAR, users need a GeForce RTX 30 Series graphics card with a supported VBIOS
a compatible CPU, compatible motherboard, motherboard SBIOS update, and our newest GeForce Game Ready driver.
For GeForce RTX 30 Series laptops, please check with the manufacturer to see if Resizable BAR is supported on a specific model.
For instructions on how to enable Resizable BAR, continue reading.

What Is Resizable BAR?

Resizable BAR is an optional PCI Express interface technology.
As you move through a world in a game, GPU memory (VRAM) constantly transfers textures, shaders and geometry via many small CPU to GPU transfers.
With the ever-growing size of modern game assets, this results in a lot of transfers.
Using Resizable BAR, assets can instead be requested as-needed and sent in full, so the CPU can efficiently access the entire frame buffer.
And if multiple requests are made, transfers can occur concurrently, rather than queuing.
