CryEngine 3 isn't free anymore. It uses a subscription model:

Yeah unfortunately there main engine is sub based or license based for comercial use but they still have there free SDK http://www.cryengine.com/community/downloads.php

Its an older engine that does not get updates or bug fixes but gives you enough of a look and feel of what there basic engine has, So if you wanted to move on from the free engine to the sub based
