I always liked to tweak windows interface, even if I haven't particular abilities in skinning/theming.
The most success was an XP really trasformed in Vista with Broken Aero skin and pratically every aspect changed.
I'm more on pretty easy to do visual changes (themes, skins) and registry tweaks, but sometimes I also risked (and risk) doing some resource editing.
