Dark7 Ultimate Theme for Windows 7

45315

One of my first themes, I thought it was pretty Ultimate at the time lmao

Very Important!!!

You must enable the use of custom themes by either patching your system with Universal Theme Patcher or use UxStyle Core which runs as a service, either way will have the same result but UxStyle Core does not change any system files and is also update proof.

Universal Theme Patcher
http://virtualcustoms.net/showthread...-Theme-Patcher (http://virtualcustoms.net/showthread.php/29116-Universal-Theme-Patcher)

UXSytle Core
http://virtualcustoms.net/showthread...cher-0.2.1.1.1 (http://virtualcustoms.net/showthread.php/31514-Uxstyle-Core-Theme-Patcher-0.2.1.1.1)

To have your taskbar centered like in the image above.

All you need to do is unlock the taskbar and right click on it go to toolbars/add new, and them make a new folder somewhere and call it blank for example, then select that folder for your new toolbar.

You then need to right click on the new toolbar and select view text/title and deselect those 2 options now repeat all those steps(you can use the same blank folder again) and place the blank toolbars on either side of your main Taskbar group and slide the taskbar to a central position.

Once you have it where you want lock the taskbar again (note that it move a little when you lock the taskbar so some fine tuning may be needed), and now you have a centered Taskbar.

If you like you can also make the blank folder hidden to remove it from view.

Taskbar will not display blue bar if you have your options set to never combine.

Always combine, hide labels should be selected.

Also if you are using any extra Toolbars you need to make sure they are displaying small icons, but only if you have them all on a single row, if you have your taskbar expanded to 2 bars it will display normally again.

Glad you like it but I don't know if I can fix the other themes as this one was started from scratch so I may not be able to fix the old ones but I will have a go.

Can you post a screen shot of the problem on the Address bar please?

Browse to windows/resources/themes and paste the files into that area.

Here is what the address bar looks like.

Fantastic theme , great work.
Only thing that lets in down is the colour of some areas of fonts.
You cant see dektop fonts and file properties. As u can see from the pic.
Might be an idea to av them blue like the others.

Edit some internet pages appear like this too hard to make out writting.E-Bay for example

That is actually not the theme but a modified task manager, just rename the original and put the modified one in the system32 folder, alternatively you can just put the modified task manger somewhere else and just add a shortcut to the Taskbar.

That is part of the Dark7 Theme but you can change the page back to white on the page colour setting in Word or you can change it in the advanced colour settings in your personalization menu.

That white area is something I already know about but I don't know how to fix it, it shouldn't be there and the Taskbar on this theme doesn't have the blue on it, only the Blue Moon and Neon themes have blue in the Taskbar.

Sorry for the bad English, I'm Italian.

Right click on explorer.exe and go to Properties - Security Tab - Advanced - Owner Tab - Edit, then select Administrator (your user name) and hit OK - OK - Edit - Administrator (your user name) and select full control and OK - OK and your done.

You will also need Restorator and have the explorer.exe open in it, then when you have made your changes open Task manager and kill the explorer process and then save using Restorator in the Windows directory, then go to your task manager again and select new task and type explorer and hit enter.

It turned out to be a lot cleaner then I thought.

There is a few things I dont like though, like the blue stuff in some areas (in the start menu for example) that I personally would prefer gray.

how to change this icon folder on taskbar? http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/4650/capturewwc.jpg

The Icon for that is in the imageres.dll in c:\windows\system32 to change it you need to first make a desktop shortcut for explorer and then right click on on the pinned explorer and unpin it.
Then open the explorer shortcut and then on the taskbar right click and then right click again on the explorer icon and select properties and the change icon, enter "%SystemRoot%\System32\imageres.dll" in the address and the explorer icon is located in there at the far end of the folder, you may also need to do the same for the desktop shortcut and then close the explorer window again and reopen it an it should now be the new icon.

Now pin the icon again and your done.

I saw this over at deviantART and was instantly amazed, awesome job GRiM!!! :D

When do you think you'll have the updated version ready for download? Because when I open up my nVidia Control Panel, I can't read the text because it's too dark and same with some websites that I go to. But other than that, this theme totally matches up with my entire rig with the dominant dark grey and highlights of blue.

EDIT: I love this theme so much that I created a custom Windows 7 Ultimate 32 and 64-bit Edition RTM build 7600 AIO DVD label, one 32-bit version only, and one 64-bit version only as well. Hope you like it as much as I do! ;)

I never knew that you weren't planning on releasing an update or maybe you already did? Because when I read the below quoted post from you in regards to the same issue that I'm having, I thought that you were still working on it. But if the Dark7 Ultimate theme that I downloaded directly from the first post of this thread was supposed to be final and you're actually considering on tweaking it a little to suit my needs, then BRAVO to you! :D

Here's some screenshots of my nVidia Control Panel where the font is barely even visible and another one where the font is totally visible and at the bottom barely visible. But the font is only barely visible where there's a description of the option at the bottom of the control panel. This is a very minor issue, but if you could tweak the theme a little to fix that would be totally awesome!

I have a feeling that I wont be able to change that text colour, I have searched for a way to change the black text in several areas and it doesn't seem possible to do in msstyles so I think something else must need editing to achieve that.

The only other easy way I know to do it is if you have dual boot, that way you can boot into the other OS and replace the dll's without them being in use, it's also a good time to clear the icon cache as well as that is not in use either, then just boot into Windows 7 again and all the icons should be done but you may still have to do a disk cleanup to delete the thumbnail cache.

I was just wondering because I noticed that after installing or uninstalling the Full Blue Glass Icon pack through the cmd executable, some other installations of programs get corrupted somehow and most of the time I'm not able to uninstall the program so that I can reinstall it again. I had to reinstall Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit last week because of that, but this time around, the icon pack was one of the first things that I installed before anything else, even drivers!!! Infact, the first thing I installed was WinRAR, then TUGZip, THEN the icon pack. :roflmao: And this time after installing all my programs, none of them have gotten corrupted since I finished last Friday. But now I'm worried about uninstalling the icon pack!!! If anything, I'll just create a backup disk image using the built-in utility that Windows 7 Ultimate comes with before I uninstall it. But I think you should look into this issue and maybe come up with an update where installation and uninstallation of the Full Blue Glass icon pack doesn't corrupt other program installations. Let me know or just update this thread if you do come up with one. But overall, I don't think I'll be uninstalling this icon pack anytime soon at all because IT'S JUST TOTALLY AWESOME with THIS THEME!!! :party2:

Another way to install the icons is download the icon pack you want with the installer and the System32 & SysWOW64 .dll's located in the Data folder of the pack now all I do is TakeOwnership (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/) of the entire "C:\Windows" folder (It can take a while), Once done Navigate to "C:\Windows\System32" & the "SysWOW64" folder for x64 bit user's and locate the .dll's we need to replace i.e "imageres.dll,imagesp1.dll,Shell32.dll,zipfldr.dll" and rename them to "imageres.dll.BAK,imagesp1.dll.BAK,Shell32.dll.BAK,zipfldr.dll.BAK" in BOTH "C:\Windows\System32" & the "SysWOW64" and copy and paste the .dll's from the icon pack you want to use.

Then I restart my PC and notice that all my icons didn't completey change so now we need to Clear The Icon Cache (http://virtualcustoms.net/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=136) or manually navigate to "C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local" and if you have "View all files and Folders" Checked then you will see "IconCache" there "Delete It" kill the "explorer.exe" in task manager under processes and then restart the "explorer.exe"

And thats it that's another option of installing without the Script and then will you see and know everything that is going on it's just the matter of replacing a few .dll's :)

As for messing with other icons like Office icons and such I'm not completely sure it would need testing try installing them this way firs and then using the script and see which one works best.I personally find the install script the easiest way myself as i do a fresh install every week and the Icons are first to get changed and i have never had any issues with the installer.

Hope this helps and let me know if i forgot anything. :)

Things was just perfectly fine up until earlier today, I noticed that each application icon and icon for the file/document associated with that app in my Office 2007 Enterprise Edition, Acrobat 9 Pro, Acrobat Distiller 9, and LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2 in my CS4 Master Collection, Logitech G-series Key Profiler and LCD Manager, HP Update and Photosmart Essential 3.5, Apple Software Update, iTunes, and QuickTime, nVidia PhysX Properties, and PerfectDisk 10 icons all got corrupted. And most likely if I try to uninstall and then reinstall these programs, I'll get errors and uncompleted uninstalls because this is exactly what happened the first time around. I guess my idea of installing the icons first before anything else didn't work at all. :(

Hi Flava0ne,

Go into your "C:\Windows\System32 & if you are x64 C:\Windows\SysWOW64" folders and see how many imageres.dll , imagesp1.dll , Shell32.dll's are there.

Coz what might be happening is coz you have a theme installed it might be corrupting the "Shell32.dll" so look for how many you have there including the ".BAK's"

The icon pack's installs and turns the original ones to ".BAK's" so it might be trying to create a ".BAK" when one already exists.Same as the other .dll's.

/EDIT: And for a good App Uninstaller try RevoUninstaller (http://www.revouninstaller.com/) it is a much cleaner uninstaller than Windows. ;)

Hey racor05, that's okay. The calendar app that I'm using is called Rainlendar and you can download the free Lite version or pay €9.95 for the Professional version here (http://www.rainlendar.net/cms/index.php?option=com_rny_download&Itemid=30) and the skin that I have on it is called Vista 2.0 and you can download it from here (http://files.customize.org/download/files/45956/Vista_1.1._2.0.zip). Cool, will look in there just about as I finish this reply and edit it later with my findings.

EDIT/UPDATE: So I basically deleted all the imageres.dll.BAK, imagesp1.dll.BAK, shell32.dll.BAK, and zipfldr.dll.BAK in both the System32 and SysWOW64 folders, and now all my app icons that got messed up earlier are back to normal again! :party2:

THANK YOU SOO MUCH MAN!!! You just saved me from a possible reinstallation of my OS, phew!

I've heard of RevoUninstaller from a few people and on some of the other forums that I go on. I will deffinitely give it a try, and thaks again for the help! :D

Would you happen to have those original .dll files for Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit available for download or know where I can download them? Because I just did a search on Google, and all that came up were links to other Windows customization sites like the Windows 7 Forums and all they were, were just advices to backup those .dll files.

You don't need to worry about having the original ones backed up because you can always restore them to defauld by opening an elevated command prompt and type sfc /scannow and it will restore any system files that have been modified or are corrupt.

That was kinda like the awesome idea I had a while ago. I basically used System Restore to Restore my files to a time when it was all good and after doing it, the original .dll.bak files that I deleted earlier were back in both the System32 and SysWOW64 folders. But if you can still upload the original .dll's after you do a fresh install of Win 7 Ultimate x64 I would really appreciate it very much! Because somehow I'm not really sure if the .bak'ed up ones were corrupted in any way, like how you were saying in your other post, since I have a modified theme installed that it might try to create more .bak's of the same .dll files.

The best thing to do is a system restore then to before you patched the dll's with the theme patcher, if that doesn't work then open an elevated command prompt and type sfc /scannow and let it run and then restart, if everything is ok then you should try a different way of making the themes run, Vista Glazz will do that for you and I have used it myself and it works well.

Hi Mr. Grim,

I really love the theme, just a question.

are some of the boxes really white, I mean like the sorting boxes?

Also, do you have a blue task manager for build 7600 x86?

Thanks!

Not sure what boxes you mean, can you post a screen shot?

The Blue Task manager on the first post should work on 7600 x86, if not try this one.

Thaks, glad you like it, did you notice the other one with the white text fill areas, Dark7 Ultimate2

you could also try changing some colours in advanced colours or you could try this one that I already changed.

Just add it to your theme folder and you will have it in your installed themes menu.

Read the notes on the first post for instructions on how to have the taskbar like mine, for the IE Icon you need to create a desktop shortcut and then right click on it and choose customize and then choose change icon and select the icon you want and hit OK.

Now unpin the old IE icon from the taskbar and then start IE from the shortcut you made then pin it again and it should good, if not then right click on the pinned icon and then right click on it again in the first pop up window and select properties and do the same as you did to the shortcut and it should definitely change then.

If you want a few browser icons I posted some here. http://virtualcustoms.net/showthread.php/27612-Custom-Browser-Icons

for the start orb you will need a restorator hers a nice tutorial made by our fellow forumer http://virtualcustoms.net/showthread.php/27737-Guide-to-Changing-your-Start-Orb-Button

to change icons manually you need a set of ico. format icons..for some reason win7 doesnt accept .png format in desktop so you have to convert each icons first then pin it to your taskbar

The Theme does not include the Icons or Start Button, you need to get the start orb separately, you will find a thread for start orbs in General Customization here (http://virtualcustoms.net/forumdisplay.php/824-Start-Buttons-Orbs)

For the Icons you can download them from the Icons with installers thread here (http://virtualcustoms.net/showthread.php/27464-Custom-Icons-with-install-Script-for-Windows-7), just follow the instructions carefully and make sure you restart when asked to.

You can use the ones from 7600 but you will have to extract the icon folder from the dll's with Restorator and then put the in the 7100 dll's then use your installer and it should work.

Your Welcome CsqU4r3d, the control panel was a problem if I remember because it was hard to change some of the font colours, I will have another look at it one day and see if I can make a version with a dark control panel.

There is only one version that works for both x86 and x64, there is an alternative link on the first post that has everything in it.

There are certain aspects of Dark7 Ultimate2 that I want to add to the original Dark7 Ultimate theme. What program can I use to edit the MSSTYLES file so that I can acomplish this and would it be a simple task?

rightspin
December 14th, 2009, 06:53 PM
You can easily modify the .msstyle with the tool restorator and replace the images from one theme to another.
You should allready find a lot of information about how to use restorator here on this forum. If you still need help, just ask its really not that hard.

Cool, thanks man! :)

If, I run into any problems I'll be sure to ask.

EDIT: I just downloaded and installed the Restorator 2007 Trial, but all I want to do is make some of the backgrounds in the original Dark7 Ultimate theme lighter like in Dark7 Ultimate2. Not exactly the same, but just a little darker than how it is in Dark7 Ultimate2. Do I just find the correct image file in the IMAGE folder then extract it and edit it? But I also want to keep the dark background in the original Dark7 Ultimate theme when you open up a Notepad text file.

Did you patch your files first so you can use Custom themes? VistaGlazz works very well if you haven't done it yet.

For the icons if you don't know how to use them without the installer then use the ones with installers and make sure you follow the included instructions very carefully.

Did you patch your system files before you tried using the theme, the easiest way I know of is VisatGlazz, which can also restore the originals again if you ever need to.

You need to use Windows Style Builder to edit the background colours or you can edit the colours with a Hex Editor but I have never tried doing it that way.

Here is how another guy did it without Windows Style Builder
Software used:
Restorator
EF Commander free
Hex Editor XVI32
Any graphic editor(like photoshop, used only for number of color in hex(like white is FC FC FC)

Steps:
1) Open restorator, load aero.msstyles go to VARIANT and click on NORMAL and extract as NORMAL.res
2) Open NORMAL.res in Hex Editor. GO TO adress posted in Six9siX's post (2c180 and similar). They might to be different, but will not be far from that adress, just search for FC FC FC.
3) Change to chosen color(in hex so for eg. 55 72 70)
4) save file(overwrite NORMAL.res)
5) Go back/open Restorator and drag NORMAL.res to NORMAL in restorator. There should be a little arrow on the NORMAL file within Restorator after this.
6) Save file
7) Ctrl+Ald+del to open manager
8) Right click on desktop choose Personalize and choose basic windows.
9) open EF Commander Free and browse to the aero folder in windows/resources, and to aero file you just modded.
10) Turn off process Explorer.exe in the manager
11) Copy modified aero.msstyles to windows/resources(overwrite)
12) in the manager clik File>...new... and enter explorer.exe.
13) Apply the earo style in Personalize.

I'm not a computer noob but I am a customization noob.I have successfully patched everything yet I put the dark theme in the theme folder and nothing happens. I have no idea what to do with the msstyles part of the theme, ot installing the task manager or anything else for that matter. No matter what I do I pretty much get no/wrong results. I would greatly appreciate any help as your themes, and others as well are quite brilliant! I'd like to be able to customize my computer to look just as incredible.

Thank you so much

Make sure you have the Dark7 Ultimate folder containing the Dark7 Ultimate.msstyles in the theme directory and the Dark7 Ultimate.theme file in the Theme directory, then open your Personalize menu and select it it from your installed themes at the bottom.

System files that need replacing for a theme are usually located in System32 or SysWOW64, The first thing you should do is create a System Restore Point and then all you need to do is Take Ownership of the original and give yourself Full Control and then rename them .bak or .old and then paste the new one in and after a restart they should take effect.

Start orbs a bit harder to change because Explorer needs to be stopped before you can make any changes, there is a tutorial I made that shows you how to do it manually http://virtualcustoms.net/showthread.php/27737-Guide-to-Changing-your-Start-Orb-Button or you can try this (http://kishan-bagaria.deviantart.com/art/Windows-7-Start-Orb-Changer-v3-153001999) new little program that will do it all for you, some people have been having problems using this and I can't guarantee it will work for you.

Tell me what version you are using and I can do that for you, is it just the explorer windows you wanted white or the Window colour?

If it's just the Window colour you want to change then you can change that in the advanced appearance settings.

They need to stay in the Dark7 Ultimate folder with the dark7 Ultimate.msstyles, and the wallpaper folder needs to stay in there too.

I just realized a GLARING problem.(I can't believe I didn't notice it!)
My task bar is bright blue and my task manager is partially white. I thought I'd read something about correcting the white issue, but can't seem to find it.
I've attached a screen shot of your TM next to mine and the obvious blue task bar.

Thanks Again.

That's is the way that one is meant to look, there are 3 versions of dark7 Ultimate and you are using the Neon one, if you download the first one it will have the dark Task Manager and taskbar.

Any suggestions?

JUST OCCURRED!!!!

I rebooted the comp and it went into start up repair for quite some time. When it finally did reboot, the main difference was the task manager was restored to normal. Is it possible I used the wrong one? Which version should I be using with windows 7 pro?

Thank you for all the help Mr. Grim.

Wee, I'm sorry to say, and i don't know why, but slowly everything started to fall apart. First an icon here and there would revert back to the old one. Then all of a sudden all the folders went back to normal. It was like the computer was trying to slowly change itself back to it's original state. I don't have a clue as what could have caused all this, but it took a lot of steam out of my will to skin and theme. I can't imagine designing them!!!! I just want to apply them!!

Oh Well.... :idk:
