Introducing Basic Black for Windows 7

This not my usual sort of style but I thought I would have a go at a basic looking theme and yes it is still for Aero.

Theme includes:

Basic Black theme
Start Orb
User pic Frame
Navigation Buttons
Media Player Skin (7tsp Pack)
System Tray Popup Clock (7tsp Pack)
7tsp Extras

To have your taskbar centered like in the image above.

All you need to do is unlock the taskbar and right click on it go to toolbars/add new, and them make a new folder somewhere and call it blank for example, then select that folder for your new toolbar.

You then need to right click on the new toolbar and select view text/title and deselect those 2 options now repeat all those steps(you can use the same blank folder again) and place the blank toolbars on either side of your main Taskbar group and slide the taskbar to a central position.

Once you have it where you want lock the taskbar again (note that it move a little when you lock the taskbar so some fine tuning may be needed), and now you have a centered Taskbar.

If you like you can also make the blank folder hidden to remove it from view.

Taskbar will not display blue bar if you have your options set to never combine.

Always combine, hide labels should be selected.

Also if you are using any extra Toolbars you need to make sure they are displaying small icons, but only if you have them all on a single row, if you have your taskbar expanded to 2 bars it will display normally again.

Oh just so there's no problems, i dont take responsibility if you somehow mess up your shell32.dll. But i've done this before, and its just a single image, so the chance of it happening is very small

Sorry Guys I should have mention this, if you install the icon pack with the theme it will also replace that white pane with one that goes with the theme, so just read the instructions and uninstall any old icon packs you have and run the install script and then your left pane in the control panel will look like this.

The file you need to replace will be in either SysWOW64 or System32 depending on what OS your using and all you need to do is take ownership of the file you want to replace and then rename the original with .bak as the extension and paste the new one in, then start Media player.

you must change the userpic in your "explorer.exe"

you must have the ownership of the "wmploc.dll"then you named your old "wmploc.dll"in "wmploc.old.bak"and now your copying
the new"dll" into "sytem32"for the 64bit-player and in "systemwow64"for the 32bit-player!

I am running windows 7 64bit.

Did you change them both in SysWOW64 and System32 and did you try restarting after you changed them, I also have had problems doing this in the past and use a dual boot and change them that way and I suggest trying it that way if you have a second OS installed.

Looks like you might need to change the Window colour for that one in Fonts, Colors & System Metrics > Fonts & System Metrics > Window:Color

Yep I was right it was the window colour, you can change it in the msstyle or in the advanced appearance settings.

Mr.Grim this theme is almost perfect. I just have a few problems like usual. The little box that I was talking about is fine now. But the menu's in VLC show up with black BG and black text. Do you use VLC? For some reason on all of your dark themes, it always uses black text and I can never figure out how to change it to white in the menu's. Is there anyway to fix that for those menu's? It also shows up a little bit in Photoshop CS4. I love the black BG but the text never has good contrast on some items so it's impossible to see.

here is 2 screen shots to show you an example . I think I have talked about this before but I will clarify just to make sure. If not is there anyway to increase the contrast or something on my monitor to help?

Like I said this could also be because of my vision, which I have a doctor from my childhood to thank for that.

Yeah the Theme working finally perfect,the Problem from me was in the resolution.
When I have the native resolution from my Screen the Theme working perfect and the Win95 Style is away.

So, i was looking at the timedate.cpl files already on my comp and it seems I have 4. (note: I am running Win7 Ultimate x64 build 7600)

I figured that it's the ones in SysWOW64 & System 32 that I need to replace. The funny thing is, When i opened them in Resouce Hacker to check the Processor Architecture it said the were both 'processorArchitecture="x86"'. The only one that said "amd64" was the one in "C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-timedate_blahblahblah"

Is this the way it's supposed to be? If it is, which ones am i supposed to replace with what? >.<

You must replace the timedate.cpl in the System32 Folder, than you kill the explorer.exe in the taskmanager and after that open a new task and write explorer.exe and click enter.

And now the clock must be changed.

The left column in the control panel is set through some bitmaps in "shell32.dll" and therefore not affected by VSs. There is a custom shell32 you can get with a dark background that you should be able to find if you google "windows 7 shell32 dark mod" ^^

but i wanted to use the glossy blue icon back of mr. grim but when i installed it the dark column turned into a white one which i've shown in my post before.

Hey, I'm new to the forums but I must say I am very impressed with your themes Mr. GriM. I installed this Basic Black Theme and I Installed the Icon pack as well. I just have a few questions, and I have a screen shot of where I'm at right now. Below is your list of what's included in the theme, I will Note which ones I have installed/completed, and see if you can help me in completing the rest.

New user pic Frame
Media Player Skin (Optional)
System Tray Popup Clock
Full Glass Blue Icon pack with installers (Optional) - INSTALLED
Full Glass mod for full transparency (Optional)

It would be great if you, or anyone could help me out with the following:

How do I change my Start Orb?
I assume the Full transparency is like a glass look to the windows & I would like to try this, but I'm obv not sure how to install/run it.
In the examples of the theme that you showed the Program Icons were centered at the top of the screen with Large custom Icons, is that a custom taskbar? Or did you just move the Icons to the Top Center of the screen?
Here is a screen shot of where I am at now, I would also like to get more 3rd Party Icons to replace some of the programs that I have on my desktop, like Adobe, Internet Explorer, Microsof office's Icon's..... If you know where I can get similar Icons to replace those that would be great, I would obviously like all my desktop Icons to look the same. I'm sorry for the "Newbie" questions, I am new to this, I'm not bad with computers, BUT I would rather ask a question than try it myself and fu*k something up. Thank you in advance for anyone who is able to answer any of my Quesions!

I love the theme so far and I got a DOCK bar for it, so that issue is solved. Just one more question, the theme changed my MS Office background colors, it made the paper black and the font light grey, it's wicked hard to type and read, so I was wondering if there is a way to change the look on MS Office. I have a scren shot of how it looks now.

I really like black/dark themes, and I've had trouble finding one that really worked in all areas. This one is IT. I can't tell you how awesome this is and be able to do it justice. This is probably the best minimalistic black theme I've ever seen. You should do more like this!
