Windows 7 x64Bit now runs the x64Bit of Sidebar.exe by default..
which causes problems for some Sidebar Gadgets..
some may work but with limited functionality..

Here's how to set the x86Bit version of Sidebar.exe to start instead of the x64Bit:

I am going to quote from another post of mine because im lazy to rewrite everything ..

Windows 7 x64Bit Users READ !!!!!!!

The "Messenger Gadget" will not work fully because Windows 7 now runs "SidebarGadget.exe" in x64 Mode :(

So the "Messenger Gadget" will not allow you to sign in from the Sidebar..
It will not be able to update .. So you will not know who is Online of Off :(

BUT ......................

I FOUND A FIX !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's how !!!
1. Close out each sidebar gadget manually by clicking the x on each sidebar gadget.
2. Once all the Gadgets are closed and there are none left..
3. Open up Task Manager (CTRL + ALT + Delete)
4. Shut down "Sidebar.exe"
5. Now go to Files(x86)/Windows Sidebar
6. Double-click "sidebar.exe"
7. Now go to the desktop and install all gadgets including "messenger gadget"
8. Now restart
9. Now you will notice that the x86Bit version will launch instead of the x64Bit .. which will allow you to use the full feature of "messenger gadget.exe"

or you can do it this way:

1st. Go to the “RUN” cammand and enter “MSCONFIG” and select “Selective Startup” and go to the “Startup” tab

2nd. uncheck “Microsoft Windows Operating System” with the command of:
“C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe/autorun”

3rd. Click the green Windows Start Button in the lower left of your screen.

4. Click “All Programs”

5. Scroll down until you see the “Startup” folder

6. Right-click the “Startup” folder and select “Explore”

7. In the window that pops up, right-click the empty white space and select New->Shortcut

8. Copy the following text, including quotes:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Sidebar\sidebar.exe”

9. Paste that copied text into the Shortcut’s “Location” field.

10. Click “Next.”

11. Click “Finish.”

12. Restart Windows Vista 64

this is probably the easiest way to get it to work.
