You may have read earlier that Microsoft has decided to discontinue downloads of the very useful Windows SteadyState after this year. While one can always achieve a Steady State in Windows 7 using Group Policy, native Windows 7 features, and the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, there are some nice free software which can act as alternatives to Windows SteadyState.

One of them is Time Freeze Free http://www.disk-utilities.com/time-freeze-free/. Time Freeze is an easy and effective virtual system freeware to keep your computer safe from viruses, spyware, Trojans and other malicious threats.

It puts the actual system under protection and creates a virtual environment for system partition, on which you run applications and surf the internet. All traces and malicious threats will disappear after reboot. You can also save changes to the actual system.

Features:

* Prevent threats of any viruses, malware, spyware and Trojans
* Eliminate cost for regular system maintenance
* Surf internet safely, and play around with computer with NO trace left
* Protect your privacy effectively
* Reboot to restore your system to its original state.

This freeware uses an advanced anti-malware and virtualization technology. It clones (copies) your operating system and creates a virtual environment for your PC. Instead of loading the native operating system, a clone is loaded that allows you to run your applications and perform your online activities in an entirely isolated environment.

In this manner, your actual operating system is never affected by viruses, Trojans, malware and other malicious threats. To return to the actual operating system environment, you just need to restart your PC. While working in the virtual environment, you have the option of saving documents and files so that your data will not be lost when the system is restarted.
