Nice work bud, if you want to make realistic planets then take a look at this tutorial, I made one as well but I did mine a little different http://virtualcustoms.net/showthread.php/27547-Photoshop-Tutorial-Awesomely-Cool-Planet
Grab some of the planet textures and use them on a 3d model http://planetpixelemporium.com/planets.html

looking at your pic a bit more I have a few suggestions, I think that the horizon needs to look more distant and the text should be more in the foreground, also I think the sun should be a bit larger and also the planet and moon, I think they would also look better if they looked more distant, they appear in front of the clouds at the moment and spoils the effect, try making them less vibrant and add a haze in front of them, plus also a few stars fading out at the top would be a nice touch.
Still a good first attempt and I look forward to seeing you progress at these as you have with your other projects

Yeah I would have to agree 2 was better for me, I think 3 is becoming too bright, I think maybe the planets are becoming too colourful as well, I don't know if I have ever seen fluorescent purple or green planets before lol but I think taking the moon out was a good idea.
Some of these might give you some idea on which direction to take
