View Full Version : Sounds won't play in Win 7

I installed an extras theme pack I think from Mr. Grim. Anyway it installed w/o a hitch, but when I went to change the default scheme to one of the new ones, (Tinker,Pearl,Glass) they installed no problem, but there is this little yellow triangle with what looks like an exclaimation point in the middle of it. Bottom line is that they don't play. I know these were originally Vista sound schemes, but I have had Tinker sound scheme installed before that worked in Windows 7. It was on the Annihilator Light theme from Grim. Is there a tweak or workaround that allows these sound schemes to work in windows 7?

CrazySouthernBoy (http://virtualcustoms.net/member.php/179496-CrazySouthernBoy), he's in device manager where he is seeing the yellow triangle with the exclamation point.

julio99 (http://virtualcustoms.net/member.php/172496-julio99), if you're still in device manager rightclick you soundcard and delete. do not uninstall the drivers when asked. once the soundcard is no longer displayed restart your comp. let windows rediscover the card. if that doesn't fix it then uninstall it again, but this time uninstall the drivers when asked, and restart again. once back in windows let it install the card and once done install the drivers you have.

Have you install any icon packs of that sort? There is a known issue with creative soundcards and modifing the shell32dll for some reason that i don't believe has been resolved as of yet the creative sound cards don't like the modifications and the sound cards no longer function after modification

Yes the files are .wav. It looks as though I need to clarify guys. The yellow triangles are visible when I go to Control Panel/Sound/sounds. Scroll through the Sound schemes and that is where you see the 3 schemes, Tinker ,Glass, Pearl. Next to each one of the schemes sounds are the yellow triangles. With that said when I go to Windows/Media and look for the 3 schemes that I mentioned above, they aren't there, which to me looks as though they weren't installed at all, but then how did they get themselves listed in the Sound part of Windows 7?51864 Here's a snip of what I'm talking about. I also looked for Compatability Mode when I installed , but it's not anywhere to be found when I click on the Scheme and Properties. By the way. I'm using a Acer 8943g laptop with Win 7x64 HP installed.

No Creative sound card installed and as I said before, I,ve had this sound scheme installed before and it worked nicely, but I had it installed through one of Grim's themes.

Would that be the same solution on a laptop, because I'm not sure how a soundcard is displayed on a laptop. I thought laptops always just used a driver for sound. Here is a snip of what I have listed in DM/Sound.51865

uninstall both of those without uninstalling their drivers when asked, and restart. if windows installs them and you have the same problem uninstall them again and this time uninstall their drivers when asked, and then restart.

OK Then I dont see how its the sound card. You should Uninstall the sounds & try to reinstall the with Admin rights.

If I uninstall either or both the drivers go with it. When you right click it,(those 2 HD items) it says down in a little box that it uninstalls the drivers. Before I do that, those sounds somehow have to be installed in Media for them to be able to play, don't they? They aren't even getting that far. They show in that sound square, but they won't show in the Media section which tells me that they aren't installed.

going from what you said about having some sounds i have to agree with CrazySouthernBoy (http://virtualcustoms.net/member.php/179496-CrazySouthernBoy). i also took another look at the image you posted and i see no yellow triangle with an exclamation point. as for uninstalling the hardware and it auto-uninstalling the drivers must be something with laptops or your particular laptop. so at this point i would follow what CrazySouthernBoy (http://virtualcustoms.net/member.php/179496-CrazySouthernBoy) is advising.

You can't install with admin rights because it comes as an .inf installer. It's like when you install custom folder icons or things like that. You right click the inf file and it shows an install in your context menu and then you just click install. Like I said before though there was no install as it didn't put the files in the "Media" folder.

Restart the computer & Reinstall it to see if that works.

I think that because those 3 sound schemes were originally made for Vista there are some compatibility issues when trying them with Windows 7. Somehow Grim has added Tinker with his Annihilator Light theme, so I just reinstalled that theme with the 7TSP and all is good again. Thanks for helping me to try and get those schemes running.
