Just wondering if you guys use an Icon packing program that can automatically apply icons to match a theme and revert it back to windows default with a click of the mouse. Similar to Stardock: Icon Packager or Alienware: Alienguise gui.

Sorry but very few here use iconpackager because it software tends to break your system like most stardock products do.
We use one of 3 methods to install icons here

1)script file installer found here http://virtualcustoms.net/showthread.php/27464-Custom-Icons-with-install-Script-for-Windows-7

2)7Tsp program http://virtualcustoms.net/showthread.php/28733-Tool-Se7en-Theme-Source-patcher-v0-3-Build-3003 and icon packs found here http://virtualcustoms.net/forumdisplay.php/850-7tsp-Icon-Packs

3) Manually opening the .dll, .exe, etc with retoratoror or similar program and manually replacing the .res file

Yeah, I just used the trial of IconPackager and as I uninstalled it, the iconcache was broken... I had to use TuneUputilities (I hate me because I installed it, this is just a ******* annoying program because it finds problems where no problem is...) to repair my IconCache.

I've used IP for many years and have never had any problems. It is very fast at changing the icons without any need to restart or uninstall anything. That is mainly because it doesn't do anything to the system files. It merely "masks" the default icons already in use by windows. It doesn't change everything but nearly. For any others I wish to change I use the techniques I've learned here. I guess I have the best of both worlds.

Recently, I have had a problem with WB: before I would change to a wb skin and all the elements would change, including the explorerframe. Now, the explorerframe remains the default, though the start orb does change. Could themeresource changer be causing this? I have no idea.

Yes, it just changes the registry. But if you want to edit a system file manually, you have to restore the registry value edited by IP. The problem here is, that IP changes very much registry values and that you can simply restore a system file using sfc /scanfile command but restoring a registry key to default is not as easy so you have to have a big confidence in IP that it can restore all registry values that it changed. With me it didn't do that so I haven't got this confidence. But if you want to use IP it's not my problem :P

I don't recommend using any of the stardock products other than object dock everytime i have ever used any of their stuff down the road i have had issues and have ended up having to do a reformat to correct what their shit screwed up. But hey thats just me. If you want to try it go for it I'm sure some will say it a great product but myself id rather use something I know is not going to break my registry plus I don't like having to pay someone for software that going to break things lol

Personally I don't use any registry cleaners, stardock products or other time bombs on my pc...

What I want is to be able to change the cosmetics of my system at will, icons and all. But not at the expense of the health and performance of my system.

My way is simple lol

since I have to make the 7tsp packs and so forth I have to edit all my system dlls in restorator manually one by one icon by icon to create the packs to begin with, yep major pain time consuming but never fails and I never have issues lol
