View Full Version : A New Carbon Fiber Psu Shroud And Haf 932 Mod Build Log

Hey guys I know I originally posted a log of the acrylic PSU shroud but I have since scratched that and in the process of modding my HAF 932 black edition.

I started by actually taking a surveillance camera case that is made out of steel and cut out a 6 3/8" angle that you see here:
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/100_3174.jpg

I needed to make sure it wasn't completely covering the PSU because of my non reference GTX 570 2.5 gig GPU's need as much airflow as I can get to them and there isn't much space between the bottom one and the top of the PSU.

Next I used a right small right angle and mounted it to the bottom of the case here(please excuse the dust I am taking everything out of my case so it wont be there anymore):

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/100_3176.jpg

After a mock up mounting I marked the hole to drill in the shroud by coming in through the back side of the case holding a marker with needle nose pliers and here is the finished product wrapped in carbon fiber:

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/100_3184.jpg

I will post more pics after I mount it and start installing more carbon fiber inside the case as well as the GPU's and my V6.

Ok guys so I finally decided to take my rig down and chop it's head off so to speak. Today I completely took over the room in my house that I am remodeling with the fireplace and setup a work table in there. (hope the missus doesn't get too mad)

So here is my new make shift work area:
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/100_3192.jpg

Starting off by doing a carbon fiber wrap on the 1000watt Ultra Modular PSU. The damn stickers they put on need to be scraped off with a razor blade and then even needed small dabs of glass cleaner to remove the excess glue.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/100_3198.jpg

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/100_3199.jpg

Next I wrapped it in black just like the shroud and went for the offset pattern of what I have on the shroud I made to cover the wires coming out of the PSU.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/100_3206.jpg

Here I am just holding up the GPU windtunnel and the PSU shroud is not actually mounted flush so just making sure the patterns are lining up offset like I want.

Next up is I am going to lay down more black carbon fiber around the motherboard and then I am going to do the back panel in red carbon fiber that way when you look at it you will see the red underlayed through all of the cable management holes on the motherboard tray.

Thank you Squire:)

Ok so I got some more parts in today. All of my UV red connectors so now it's time to start sleeving and sleeving and more sleeving :)

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932 Mod/100_3210.jpg (http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932 Mod/100_3210.jpg)

Now onto taking care of the annoying multicolored power, reset etc wires.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932 Mod/2012-03-01_16-24-36_985.jpg (http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932 Mod/2012-03-01_16-24-36_985.jpg)

Had to wrap it with red tape first because I don't feel like running all new solid red wires.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932 Mod/2012-03-01_16-30-32_566.jpg (http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932 Mod/2012-03-01_16-30-32_566.jpg)

I think I actually might be somewhat satisfied with the red and black.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932 Mod/100_3219.jpg (http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932 Mod/100_3219.jpg)

Well that's it for now but wanted to give a brief update on my work. Going to be busy for a couple days with sleeving and will post more pics. One thing I didn't like was the larger heat shrink is pink looking lol I ordered some red UV that I will be replacing that with though.

Ok so I am taking a break on the sleeving due to waiting for another UV red 24 Pin for my PSU side of the cabling. Also the pink looking heatshrink just wont do.

First on the agenda is to get rid of the ugly Blue LED's front the front IO shield of my HAF. Of course they don't make it easy for you and I had to desolder the LED housing completely from the PCB in order to swap them out. +1 for Coolermaster since they marked which side was positive and which one was negative.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/2012-03-02_15-26-48_95.jpg
And here is the blue ones removed in the housing:
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/2012-03-02_15-28-31_211.jpg
They basically have this little piece you see here that must be removed and then you bend and slide the LED prongs out and then slide and bend your new shiny red ones in :)
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/2012-03-02_15-30-03_851.jpg
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/2012-03-02_15-44-59_591.jpg
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/2012-03-02_15-44-34_87.jpg

Now time to solder the LED housing back into the PCB and test it out. The longer prong on the LED is always the positive side.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/2012-03-02_17-23-07_17.jpg
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/2012-03-02_17-23-27_22.jpg
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/2012-03-02_17-28-37_169.jpg

Kind of a pain to fit it back in to the top panel but with some finesse I got it in there.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/2012-03-02_17-45-01_426.jpg

Now going to fire it up with just a 24pin and 8pin plugged into my board on my workbench. I know the HDD light shouldn't come on but if my power light does then I know I am good to go.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/2012-03-02_17-36-55_798.jpg
Yay it works.

Here are some really annoying LEDs I am going to have to deal with next:

Thank you mate! Yeah it was weird that the smaller heatshrink wasn't as pink but the 1" and 1/2" was completely pink looking...lol I did order the red UV Heatshrink so it should be here next week. Also I received my 3m D-noc Carbon fiber today so I am super excited.

Thank you everyone I really hope this comes out as good as I had hoped now that I have dropped quite a bit of change into all the materials..lol
Wanted to give a quick update....My real 3M Di-Noc came in yesterday so I finally popped it open since still waiting on a few other things I have ordered.

First thing in order is my V6GT going to wrap the top and also do the fan shrouds as well. What a difference having a proper heat gun (i bought a new one) and real 3M. Originally was going to pop out the button that controls the LED's and wrap both sides of the LED strip black but coolermaster has a plastic rivet holding it in so I'm gonna pass. I am just going to wrap some red carbon fiber like the pics below for now.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/2012-03-04_12-50-46_201.jpg (http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/2012-03-04_12-50-46_201.jpg)

Oops forgot this one had to lay a complete square of Di-Noc over the fan shrouds and carefully cut out the center hole. Pretty pleased with the results.

Thank you Big V I am keeping my hopes pretty high as well as my expectations lol

Thank you. I know I might be jumping all over the place do to my adult ADD :) but I am waiting on a new shipment of parts so I decided to go forward on the front IO and get rid of the ugly USB 2.0 cables with the colored wires.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932 Mod/2012-03-04_20-10-55_381.jpg (http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932 Mod/2012-03-04_20-10-55_381.jpg)

In case anyone wants to do this it is fairly simple, all you have to do is gently pry back the little plastic clip as seen here:
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932 Mod/2012-03-06_08-10-55_740.jpg (http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932 Mod/2012-03-06_08-10-55_740.jpg)

Then the wire should very easily slide out and then just do all of them but make sure you know the color pattern :)
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932 Mod/2012-03-06_08-11-57_339.jpg (http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932 Mod/2012-03-06_08-11-57_339.jpg)

And here is the finished result.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932 Mod/2012-03-06_08-13-15_810.jpg (http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932 Mod/2012-03-06_08-13-15_810.jpg)

Also I went ahead and changed out the Power, Reset Sw, Hdd led heat shrink because for some reason the red was actually really pink.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932 Mod/2012-03-04_19-42-41_343-1.jpg (http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932 Mod/2012-03-04_19-42-41_343-1.jpg)

Hey guys I know it has been a week since my last post so wanted to give you an update on the build log. For those that know me I had to take a week off due to a pinched disk but I just got a bunch more parts in so I thought I would show you what I have done so far.

Here is the top of the V6gt done:
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/2012-03-13_18-46-24_228.jpg

Here I have all of the UV heatshrink/sleaving and connector pins I was waiting on:

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/2012-03-13_18-47-28_925.jpg

Also got my UV light (invertless) from http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php
Sad thing is the damn UPS guy freaking broke it upon delivery but all I had to do was take a pic and email them after a 2 minute phone call and they sent me a brand new one so I would highly recommend this company.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/2012-03-13_18-50-46_770.jpg

Next up I bought a few tools from Orvac in order to crimp all the open barrel power pins etc as well as molex removal tool.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/2012-03-13_18-48-02_718.jpg

I also bought a couple feet of LED strips that are actually red, green, blue, white, orange, yellow, cyan & purple along with a remote control so I can program the speed and make them fade and different effects. (I will only be using red but figured might as well future proof them)

First up I am doing my 8 pin

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/2012-03-13_17-53-48_174.jpg

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/2012-03-13_17-50-04_60.jpg

The proper way to crimp these is a little difficult for most but with a little patience you will get it right with the proper tools.

Anyway you get the idea of what I am going for so tomorrow going to cut some pieces out of the mobo tray and lay down some more 3M di-Noc and finish up the 24 pin and then start on my PCIe cables.

Quick update on the build log for my HAF932:

Next up is removing the annoying tabs on the top of the case that would hold a PSU if you were putting it up top.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/2012-03-14_16-06-25_495.jpg

Now to wrap the motherboard tray:

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/2012-03-19_08-40-50_361.jpg

Also there is a small rectangle that has hose grommets so I might as well do that while I'm at it:

Also I finished up the V6gt and am quite pleased with the results:

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/2012-03-18_16-24-40_282.jpg

Next up is going to do some things to the GPU wind tunnel as well as remove some stickers from my GTX 570 2.5 gig gpus and do some red carbon fiber on those.

Question good sir, But could you tell me what brand that cable sleeving is? Or do you know where i can get my hands on some of that stuff. I have a sleeving kit, But I don't think the quality looks anywhere close to what you got yourself right there. And Good job, I don't know anyone that can really mod the case in the manner you did. Good job. I really am eager to see the rest of this project come along.

The sleeving I used was mostly BitsPower Super tight weave sleeving which I purchased from
www.performance-pcs.com They have a higher shipping cost than most places but I buy from them because their customer service is above and beyond anywhere else I have bought from. I got a UV cathode that UPS just threw on my porch and broke it and all I did was call them up and send a picture and they shipped me a new one that day without having to send back the broken one. I also bought all of the UV connectors 24pin, 8pin etc etc from them.

Oh and hello VC I Just wanted to give an update on my HAF 932 Mod...Please excuse the poorer quality pics, only one of them was from my good camera then the battery died and I used my cell phone.

Basically I have everything mocked up and installed on how I want it except for a few black cables behind the motherboard tray that need to be sleeved. Once I am done with that I will have a perfect cable management job done not only in the front but as well as the back.

Here is a shot of the back before I finished, I will post the completed job once I sleeve the other few cables.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Haf932%20Mod/2012-05-22_13-10-29_220.jpg

And last but not least here are the shots with the new PSU Shroud installed which covers all of my PSU cables coming out of the PSU. Also note the new 140mm Shark LED Fan (95 CFM) on the exhaust. Picked that up today.

Next up is I am going to be installing these LED Strips, I have a remote control that I can program to fade in or out or turn off them completely.

After that I will be mounting my UV cathode since all the sleeving and connectors are also Red UV. Also as you can see I only have two GTX 570 2.5gig Gpu's but I will be placing a third one in between so the Triple SLI bridge is there as my incentive to hurry the hell up and buy one to complete my build.

Sorry about the crappy phone pics I was only able to get one good pic with my camera before the batteries died. Also I need ot re carbon the back panel with RED because I used inferior carbon on that portion. Never ever settle for anything less than 3M DiNoc, I used black DiNoc on pretty much everything else and had no issues with it however the cheap shit shows through as you can see on parts of the underlayed portion of the mobo tray.
