Put Your System Through Its Paces: Download The PLA DirectX 11 & PhysX Benchmark

By Andrew Burnes On Monday, June 18th, 2012

The Chinese gaming industry has advanced by leaps and bounds in recent years, progressing from the creation of outsourced art and copycat Facebook games to the development of fully-fledged AAA titles that generate hundreds of millions of dollars per year. Hoping to replicate that success is Passion Leads Army (PLA), a highly anticipated, free-to-play, multiplayer online first-person shooter from Giant IronHorse.
Known locally as 光荣使命, Giant IronHorse's shooter is one of the most graphically advanced Chinese titles to date, in part thanks to the use of Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3. Featuring a range of DirectX 11 effects, such as tessellation and Bokeh depth of field, PLA also makes extensive use of NVIDIA’s GPU-accelerated PhysX technology (http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/physx) to generate realistic, physics-led effects. To help promote PLA, and to get gamers ready for its launch later this year, Giant IronHorse has released the first-ever Chinese-developed DirectX 11 benchmark featuring the aforementioned range of effects.
Weighing in at 566MB, the PLA benchmark is available to download, is fully localized, and showcases the complete range of effects in the final product.
While you’re downloading, let’s take a closer look at the effects on display in Passion Lead Army’s benchmark.

Mine is a BenQ 120hz 24" http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/benq_xl2410t.htm Not great out of the box but with some tweaking its not bad, best thing is the response time which i wanted for gaming, its deffinatly not a monitor for rich colours or like photo editing or graphics editing, it really is built for gaming.

Graphics Card is slightly factory clocked but just slightly, i did have a go and can take it quite a bit further so thats nice to know for future. Its the Gainward Phantom 1.5gig version not the 3gig version http://www.behardware.com/articles/840-6/roundup-a-review-of-the-super-geforce-gtx-580s-from-asus-evga-gainward-gigabyte-msi-and-zotac.html. Just did some quick review searches for the links for these. Was going to get the 3gig version but apparently this performed just as good, or atleast near as made very little difference as the 3gig, at the time of purchase nothing was going to stress it, unless using multiple monitors then the 3gig would shine. I suppose it may start soon to outdo the 1.5 with the new games coming out soon but i doupt i will have problems for a little while with mine yet.

@bigporl (http://virtualcustoms.net/member.php?u=216048)

It really depends what you want to do with your monitor, whether it be gaming or graphics/photo editing, whether you want 3d capable or not. There is lots of debate over monitors, especially the TN v IPS panels. Some say TN is better for gaming because of the higher response times they give, and IPS for graphics/photo editing. But again it would depend how much you want to spend on a monitor. Id say that some of the new IPS panels can probably give great refresh rates if spending a little more for a GOOD monitor. TBH ive seen some IPS panels that are no better than TN colour wise and some IPS that have better response times. Others have only given better viewing angles. Some of that depended on price of course. Monitors really are the hardest thing to choose for me atleast.

Best advice i can give is decide what you want to use it for and how much you want to spend.
For gaming you want great response times for nice fluid movement, no ghosting effects.
For Photo editing/graphics work choose something that gives great colour.
If gaming is more important get the monitor with a good response time and decent colour
Its going to be hard to find a monitor that does everything perfectly even if spending lots of money, but of course if you are spending lots then you will get closer to perfect for both than spending little as is always the case with PC equipment.

Most online shops have forums so check them out aswell, you can usually find some good info in those, especially from people who have purchased the product your looking for and of course you can ask for advice from them aswell.

***EDIT*** I see you are from the UK so if you dont know this place then take a look they have some nice deals from time to time and the forums their are a great source of info. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/
These guys are really close to you in Bradford, but their customer support is apparently very very very poor, reading some reports from customers (not the customer reports they put on the website :P), but they are very cheap for a lot of stuff. I personaly have only bought one thing from them and had no problems with it so cant comment on that. http://www.cclonline.com/

My first choice would be overclockers they have great support and its always sent on time, never had any problems RMA'ing anything with them in the past.

Well having just built and tested my new rig this very day and deciding to come back here to see how the premium themes have progressed, I figure why not see what the 3770k etc can. Will download when my membership for lack of posting is restored.

for some reason the screenshot will not work for me, But I will say i am very happy with my results.

Nvidia GeForce 560 Ti
Intel core i7 3770K @3.50 Ghz
DX11
Lowest Frames: 34.9
Highest Frames: 64.9
PhysX High

For such a Dated card this thing just blew me away when i saw teh results. I don't think i need a 600 series card anytime soon anymore. I am more than satisfied at the moment. But I will say I don't think these benchmarks really put your computer through it's paces like games do. My GPU fan didn't even need to kick in during this test but if i play something like Saints row the third or DOW 2 then my GPU wil heat up and i ay see frames getting lost every once in a while. Like in syrim if you stan at dragonsreach and look towards the rest of the city with everything maxed out and the HD patch then you will see some drops in the frames. well at least 3Dmark was a bit more stressful then this.

SirSlaughter, I highly recommend an ASUS DCU 2 TOP GTX 670. It is as fast as a GTX680, much cooler and cost £50 less.

I sure would. It is absolutely amazing. What gets me the most is how quiet is it. I tell you, my Corsair TX850 PSU makes more noise than the GPU and CPU fans combined. Even at full load the GPU is nigh on silent. And fast it base clock is practically the same as the 680 and the boost is 1137MHz. Brilliant for the money and brilliant in its own right.
