Hey guys so I am completely redoing my case since I was given permission from Gigabyte and the judges so long as I keep the same case and basic theme and they asked me to use a Gigabyte motherboard since I won won. Wasn't really wanting to use the Z77X-UD3H that I won due to the color scheme on it so will be getting a different one.

For those that don't know here is the way it looked yesterday:
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/LanFest/100_3423.jpg

And here is what it looks like as we speak:

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/PAX%20Prime%20Tear%20down%20and%20rebuild/100_3443.jpg

Ordered this today:
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/Gigabyte-Z68-UD7-Sandy-Bridge-Motherboard-Gets-Priced-2.jpg

Tomorrow I will be going to my wifes work and using the sandblaster to get it ready for the powder coating I will be doing. I will post more pics once I am done powder coating.

Couple of things I will be doing is putting a 240 RAD up top and also a 120 RAD on the back panel

Not sure what pump or reservoir yet but will be doing an SLI with waterblocked cards. Possibly two GTX 680's not sure just yet.

I will be redoing a ton of carbon fiber once I am done powder coating so I will start posting my build log for anyone that is interested.

You are re-doing the whole thing!? MADNESS!!! Well I find it a little bit unfortunate seeing as that case was just so kickass. But hey I still look forward to seeing what you make of this beast. Keep it up and keep us posted. Can't wait to see more.:applause:

Yeah it seems every waking moment is consumed with this project. I actually found out that Coolermaster does in fact powder coat their cases so had to take it in to get chemically stripped before I take it to the powder coater.

Decided on the outside color...it's called Red Baron which is a darker red almost blood looking and doing the inside a gloss black but also will be rewrapping the motherboard tray and other things again with carbon fiber.

Looking at 2 GTX 580 Classified's 3gig cards with waterblocks to replace the 570's in there now as the 680's are $700 usd each and I can pick up the others for $500 usd each. Still a lot of money but I am going for broke.

Thank you guys. I ordered a bunch of stuff today.

2 of these:
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/580.jpg

6 of these coolermaster sickleflow 120mm fans to do a push pull configuration on my 240 rad and 120 rad
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/1-6.jpg

I ordered a huge list of other stuff but will post pics once it all gets here and I do a mock up of the idea I have for the configuration of my water loop.

I received this from Coolermaster today:
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/PAX%20Prime%20Tear%20down%20and%20rebuild/100_3447.jpg
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/PAX%20Prime%20Tear%20down%20and%20rebuild/100_3451.jpg
Now I am going to start sleeving the 24pin and I also need to sleeve 4 PCIe 8 pins, and 2 PCIe 6 pins because these cards each take 2 8pins and a 6 pin due to their high overclocking ability.

Actually yes you do spy one...lol That is my ROG G53SX laptop which is my current machine of daily use since I have 2 rigs torn down right now.

Btw thank you JohnDay I will give it my best at this project and will always remember to try and have fun with it instead of getting frustrated when problems occur.

I received two great things in the mail today.

Thank you Otis at Arsenal Computer Mods for this:
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/PAX%20Prime%20Tear%20down%20and%20rebuild/100_3459-1.jpg

Also picked up a rivet gun and some new tools that I will need, going to rivet back together my case while it is still stripped of powder coat in order to make some modifications to my HD cages because there is going to be a reservoir in there and a new window on the side panel so you will be able to look through and see the 250m res.

Will post more pics tomorrow.

Very nice, which Processor do you have or plan on putting in there btw ?

Right now I am putting an i7 2600k and it will be running at 5ghz 24/7. Previously I had a different motherboard (EVGA P67 FTW) but since the contest sponsors allowed me to tear down and rebuild as long as I kept the same basic red and black theme they also asked me to use a Gigabyte board so I was honored to do so.

I will be putting in the processor today on a test bench and setting up a RAID 0 array with two Crucial M4's to just make sure the motherboard is without faults because this board can no longer be purchased since the new Z77 boards have been released. Will post my results asap.

@ 5ghz thats a nice OC especially 24/7 :). Yeah best to bench it first, especialy with the covering you do, not an easy replacement if you have to swap it out. GL m8ty

Lol....Yeah I am going to be putting a 240 rad up top and a 120 rad on the back exhaust so both will be in a push pull configuration using all 6 of those CM sickleflows.

Oh yeah I have a ton of gigabit switches, patch panels etc because it is what I do for work. Most of my customers that upgrade to managed switches usually are nice enough to let me have the older equipment.

Hey friends just wanted to give an update on my build progress.

I bought a couple of new tools one of which is a bender brake so i can bend my own 16gauge steel to modify my case to how I want it like the PSU shroud and some other brackets for my reservoir etc.

Also got a bunch of stuff from Mnpctech that I will be installing.

I also received my 24 rad as well as my 120 rad, eheim pump, 2 GTX 580 Classified Hydro Copper GPU's.

Here is the new window I cut for the custom placement of the 250 reservoir

Going to be an epic build Odin once your completed.
How much time do you have left before your deadline on this project.
And did I here you say you where going to donate this build to your friendly co_admin @ VC? after the comp? lol
A guys got to try! lmao

odinlives
July 11th, 2012, 11:13 PM
Thank you BigV :)

My deadline is going to be to at least have it 100% complete no later than August 25th because I am going to be driving up to Seattle Washington and have to be there for PAX Prime on August 28th. I need to really step it up this month and have the powder coating started by the months end.

Only problem is there are so many little things I need to fabricate like in the reservoir window where all those little ugly HDD tabs are I am going to have to cut them all out and then cut some more metal which will be riveted in there to give it a nice clean look. Also I have to fabricate some type of mount on the back side of the case for my SSD's and then cut the window for them on the back side.

Also going to be drilling a couple 2 inch holes in the PSU shroud and put some Mnpctech grommets in there for the 4 8pin PciE cables and the 2 6pin PciE cables to be routed through there.

Oh and before I forget, I have to sleeve the psu cables including all the pci express cables. lol I have my work cut out for me but actually enjoying this much more than I did the carbon fiber thing. I do plan on using some carbon on this build but a much more subtle approach to it with accents instead of gong crazy like I did last time lol

lol I don't blame you for trying.....

I have to say, I am really becoming addicted to modding now and have some crazy ideas for my next one already. Just hope the missus continues to support me like she has. I couldn't have done it without her. :)

Ok wanted to give a small update on my build log. Since I have made my custom PSU Shroud out of 16gauge steel decided to make a couple of holes for my 4 8pin PciE and 2 6pin PciE cables in order to better manage the way they will look being plugged into my new GPU's.

First off I cut a couple of 2inch holes with a hole saw:

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/PAX%20Prime%20Tear%20down%20and%20rebuild/100_3564.jpg

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/PAX%20Prime%20Tear%20down%20and%20rebuild/100_3566.jpg

Even though the holes are a little rough it's ok because I have these great grommets that will be going in like so:

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/PAX%20Prime%20Tear%20down%20and%20rebuild/100_3567.jpg

Looks good now will see how it lines up in my case:

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/PAX%20Prime%20Tear%20down%20and%20rebuild/100_3571.jpg

That's it for now, I did purchase a new drill press and an air compressor finally so I need to put my ass into high gear and get this thing off to powder coating.

Got some good news today from my the folks at Patriot memory! They are going to be sponsoring this build as well so I am anticipating a 16gig Viper Extreme 2133mhz kit which will be featured in this mod.

Getting ready to powder coat after I drill a hole and remove a couple of tabs from the case tomorrow.

Here is the recent metal work that I have done to seal off the new Pump Bay to give it a nice clean look instead of the hdd cage that it used to be.

I will be installing a smaller grommet for the hose to come out of there and into the GPU's.

I am pretty satisfied with the way it looks.

Ok wanted to give a quick status update and post a couple of money shots for you guys during the rebuild.

What I did here on the top I/O panel is dropped a piece of 16g steel I had fabricated prior and powder coated gloss black (the picture doesn't do it justice though) to match the other case pieces and made an actual functioning fill port for the bitspower 250mm reservoir. I always see cases showcasing a fillport up top but I have never actually seen someone utilize it and make it functional so here you have it:

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c124/sober4today/PAX%20Prime%20Tear%20down%20and%20rebuild/100_3658.jpg

The rest are just some shots of the build progress to see how everything is going to layout and whether or not it is going to meet my standards before I commit to complete reassembly. All in all I am very satisfied and quite stoked to say the least. I want to hurry up and drop in those 2 580 classifieds and see where I stand at 5.3ghz...lol

Here is what I have done for today.

Installed 3 Crucial M4's to their new mounting bracket underneath the reservoir bay on the backside of the case. I already planned this from the begining of the build and that is why there is a nice new shiny window on the backpanel to showcase the SSD's. The top one is a 256 gig Crucial M4 and the other two are 64 gig Crucial m4's in RAID 0.

Originally I had planed on turning the SSD's inside out and just mounting the pcb of each on the bracket so you could see them through the window but really didn't care for the way it looked.

Hey Odin. Quick question dude. How many power supplies does that monster need? I doubt your using just one, those GTXs alone use a lot of power. If you are using just one, then how many watts does it put out?

Here are some pics I think I forgot to post of my rig at the CoolerMaster Booth at PAX.

Yeah it was a really amazing event however I haven't won anything just yet. The sad part about this whole thing is that Gigabyte pulled out on what was supposed to be the finals for the 3 case mods that won at GESL Intel Lanfest at Cal Poly Pomona, CA.

The good news is I have managed to get my name out there so to speak and also my case is entered here:

Not sure if the voting will be on facebook or not but if you guys want to help a brother out please cast a vote my way if you think my mod is worthy.
