I just normally use the built-in Snipping Tool with W7....Then crop/chop it if I need to with Adobe, GIMP, and/or FastStone Image Viewer.

You can also use the print function of windows just hit print on your keyboard then open paint and hit paste then do your edits and crops in paint.
Myself I use a little java based app called Jshot it has a nice basic editor that come along with it plus the ability to upload your image directly to net also. http://jshot.info/

Yes, sometimes the keybard's 'PrtScn' (printscreen) function is better than the Snipper because it captures open start-menus and such. The Snipping Tool closes the start-menu and Taskbar Clock when you click it......
I usually edit my screenshots (I'm sure everyone else does too) a LOT with cropping/cutting/pasting before uploading them. Sometimes I even paste in the cursor and add a motion-blur with PS for good measure, to add
a cool touch.
I used to use SnagIt on my old XP machine. Was thrilled that they added the Snipping Tool to Win7 when it came along.

I have been using FastStone Capture 5.3 (Last Freeware Version) (http://www.aplusfreeware.com/categories/mmedia/FastStoneCapture.html) for a couple of years that has some good features like delayed capture so you can set up your screenie the way you want before capture and will also auto-scroll web pages.

There is only one small drawback as your text size must be set to 100 % DPI for screen captures and auto-scroll to work properly.

ok guys now I need a recommendation, print screen and Jshot both failed me yesterday in a game I wanted to grab a couple screens out of.
print screen function only wanted to grab my desktop with the game open and running and not the game, and Jshot wanted to do the same.
Any recommendation on something that will capture a nice high res screen out of my game while its running.

That is good. What about Screenshot Captor http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Mouser/screenshotcaptor/ ? It still looks to me the best one...
