I would like to replace my presant HDD with a new 500gb carver black I have but not used (win 7 Pro x64bit is on a seperate 64gb SSD and programs are on a HDD) so I need to format the new drive (I can fit it OK / screws and SATA cables) and then put the data from the old HDD to the new HDD, then remove the old HDD and rename the new HDD ... I think ?, any help on this would be appreciated, thank you

Well, everything you wrote there is ok, you actually don't need help. But one note, you can rename the new hard drive immediately when placing it the first time

If I am reading this correctly you are already running your OS off a ssd correct?
So all you need to do is plug the new drive in and do a basic format you should be good to go.
If you need a partition tool this is the one I use http://download.cnet.com/MiniTool-Partition-Wizard-Home-Edition/3000-2094_4-10962200.html
Mini Tool Partition Wizzard Home Edition - it works excellent and you can make a bootable cd to perform more advanced options at bootup

i agree from what you wrote you really should be o.k. on your own, i also agree with Big V (http://virtualcustoms.net/member.php/155318-Big-V) about partition wizard, from pw's site you can in the install version and the iso for making a boot disk.
