What do you guy use to record your desktop, like for doing a tutorial? And of course, is there one out there that is awesome and free?

Camtasia is ok for simple real-time desktop recording.
To create interactive (timelined) tuts for training and/or Presentation, you should have
a look at InstantDemo (Instantdemo dot com)

Camtasia 7 works great. (even though there's an existing more updated version) 7 gives you everything you need.
