Hi everyone,

I'm on Windows 8.1 and I would like to go back to the default icons. How do I uninstall the custom icon pack and then restore the default icons?

Thanks,
-Chuck

Hi Chuck
Which icon pack did you download ?
Traditionally one would use a system image if a uninstall wasn't offered by whoever offered the icon pack installer :/
Cheers.

Well, without knowing which icon pack it was that you installed there are two different ways you can go about it.

First, being as most icon packs here are offred in .7z format you could have used 7tsp to install it, in which event you would use the 7tsp "Restore" function to uninstall back to the systems original icons.

Second, if you did not use 7tsp to install the icon pack, or even if you did for that matter, open an elevated command prompt and type: sfc /scannow (with the space) and hit enter, it will take a while to scan, after it gets to 100% it will tell you that it found errors and fixed them and they will be fixed on reboot. type: exit to close the command prompt and reboot, your default icons should be back to normal.

BTW, all an elevated command prompt is right click on command prompt and selecting "Run As Administrator"

I'm pretty sure the icons came with this theme, but I may be mistaken. http://virtualcustoms.net/showthread.php/66861-HUD-Apocalypse-Windows-8-1-1-Theme

I'm running the scan now, since I uninstalled the 7tsp a couple weeks ago... why did I do that?? :td:

Well the theme itself will only change a handful of icons (This Pc, User folder and a couple of others), if you installed a full icon pack which would change all your icons then sfc /scannow is the way to go since you uninstalled 7tsp.
Just beware, whatever tools you installed to run third party themes you will have to re install after running sfc, sfc puts all system files back to thier defaults.

That fixed it! :)

And it's fine if it uninstalls all the other stuff, I kinda wanna just go back to the default look. Thomas aren't really my style. ;)

Thanks again! :)
