Any chance we could get the same select look? (The one that is just a grey block) instead of blue?

Also if you want spaces on your taskbar 7+ Taskbar tweaker has a setting for that (and it does a bunch of other stuff like add the option to remove the show/peek at desktop button) (and it has a win10 beta version out that I use and find it to be stable) so you may want to experiment with that and you wouldn't have to bake it into the theme =p

Edit: also LOVE the new context menu without the big white space at the top and bottom. It was really blinding on the 8 version.

I just use SystemTransparency. The maker abandoned the project, but it works like a charm for me. I keep saying it here in case anyone else might benefit from it, but I guess no one really cares for it. I do!

That's a rainmeter skin by redsaph of DeviantArt called Cleartext. It's available on DeviantArt. It supports the nowplaying plugin and the spotifyplugin. I'm using it for Spotify.

No still not themeable but you can use Taskbar Color Effects http://www.thewindowsclub.com/add-color-effects-windows-7-taskbar-taskbar-color-effects to add a tilled image although it doesn't have proper transparency as it puts a solid color behind it and only allows you to adjust the overall transparency rather then just the colored background.

I'm not sure what you mean but if you're talking about one of my posts it was either:
Windows 10 Black Edition or Blade for Windows 8.1 that you can download.

Here is another theme I have imported to windows 10, I found out that windows 7 themes are better to import as it doesn't require you to add all the extra classes manually and also you get the new Windows 10 animations, still a few bugs to work out with the taskbar and areo peak preview but better results then using a windows 8 theme.

Anyway here is Equinox imported directly from Windows 7 and no the taskbar is still not themeable, this is the taskbar color effects again, I also set the normal taskbar background 100% transparent using option in SiB

Yeah your right, I was going to do this version to start with but the user feedback seemed in favour of the dark version instead so that was the version I went with, I personally prefer this one, the only difference being is my original idea also had the white area in the start menu as well, this is still there if you click on all programs.

I will start releasing some of these themes in the next couple of days as well as the images I am using for the taskbar.

In an update, I noticed that the Win 10 activation key that only worked for a short period of time is now displaying a message saying January 25, 2016 the license is no longer valid. That's too bad, I was hoping this was a way to clean install in virtualbox. At least it works til then though.
The new Aero Glass stable installer ran fine, performance is flawless. Modernframe and the GUI work. The new Black Edition RGB themes are so good too. The titlebars would could reflect active/inactive opacity in the frames better at times maybe.

Once again I have to say that the 7tsp imported IconPacks for Windows 8.1 by Lamia are working flawlessly on Windows 10. And that's saying something as the slightest update will ruin GuestAdditions (fullscreen). Overall it's the best import Windows 10 is capable of that I can see. The new theme by gsw953 is great, I'm really glad to slee a return of glow in titlebars tbh though Aero Glass is being a bit annoying though with either A. forcing the user to make by hand registry tweaks to make the colouring of active/inactive borders or B. Setting the inactive borders being white.

I don't understand, I thought the Windows 10 taskbar was unthemeable? surely if Start 10 can do it and even if SIB could then the taskbar is themeable, the only question is how and where to do it so it can be inserted into the theme itself.

This is where WSB is lagging behind because if everything else in 10 is themeable surely the taskbar has to be. I have kind of gotten fed up with WSB, I purchased it during the Windows 7 years when it was fully compatible with 7 and we were supposed to get free upgrades to it but there has been no solid upgrade to it since, every time a new beta comes out only certain things work and others don't ,every release is buggy and new versions never come out of beta, I mean the home page for WSB still shows a picture of Vista style builder. I really whish they would just sell the program to someone who will take it seriously so they can pick up the ball and run with it and we can get a stable version that is compatible with both 8 / 8.1 and 10.

Because taskbar or not I will be damned if I will put ANYTHING Stardock related on my system.

and this is why i say **** software manufactures, cause too many a perfectly good program is left to waste away because they don't update it and have the copyright locked down so others can't update it. up till the mid 80's you got a 10 year copyright on software then it became open domain. we need that back.

There is no way of themeing the taskbar in Windows 10, in some of the pre release insider preview builds it was still possible and those are probably the pictures you have seen, there are a couple of ways you can still have your own image there now but it's not the best solution, the first is to use Stardock's Start 10 https://www.stardock.com/products/start10/ the other way I know of is using Taskbar Color Effects http://www.thewindowsclub.com/add-color-effects-windows-7-taskbar-taskbar-color-effects these are both very limited solutions and neither are desirable but that is our only option for now.



Looks like you can achieve an effect similar to a "themed" taskbar (for example in the themes "Poison" or "Equinox" that Mr Grim showed) that cannot change with the resources in applied theme and theme folder. So, it's not desirable to change the taskbar every different theme, so for me the idea doesn't appeal, especially not with Stardock. Mr GRiM pretty much sums it up, I think though.

There's the message he sent me. From what I'm reading of it, it's basically an effect similar to Taskbar Color Effects in the way it works. I'm currently using Taskbar Color Effects on my PC with the Windows Black Edition theme to make it look a 'tad' bit like a themed taskbar. But I also refuse to use anything stardock related.

WSB was created to only edit the msstyles, the taskbar in Windows 10 isn't in the msstyles. It hasn't updated in a while because I don't have the time to, but I also don't have say into whether or not it gets open sourced (you'd have to ask Ave about that). I would also like to apologize for the quality of the post 1.5 betas, those were all me and I'm in no way an expert in C++.

Windows Style Builder was originally developed by Andreas Verhoeven who is also the developer of Ave Apps http://www.aveapps.com he was very young when he developed WSB and has now moved onto much larger things and pretty much abandoned WSB, he has posted a couple of times in the last few years and did help PandaX a little bit with the development but PandaX who is now the sole developer of WSB had no prior coding experience and has had to learn everything since Ave's departure, I think considering the position he was left in he has done a really great job.

Yes the website needs to be updated and yes we need a new stable version but as far as functionality that is all down to the msstyles and how MS decides to implement it. I think that PandaX has done a great job to create a platform that can still be used to import Windows 7 themes to both Windows 8 and Windows 10, there are no limitations with WSB as far as the msstyles go, you have a complete tool able to change every part of it, the problem is with MS who have begun to remove more functionality from the msstyles, it started with Windows 8 when they removed the start menu and now with Windows 10 most of the taskbar classes have been completely removed and what is left is almost completely useless.

That's not to say that developers like Tihiy cannot reintroduce the old functionality, he was able to sort out the mess when we went from 8 to 8.1 with the jumplist being messed up and the start menu being completely removed from the msstyles, classes can be added back to the msstyles so that's not a problem, the problem is that windows won't know how to use them unless the code is also brought back in some way like it is with SiB or like OldNewExplorer.

Don't get me wrong, I meant no disrespect, I know PandaX got left holding the bag and is doing the best he can and for that, yes I am grateful, but still somehow I feel gipped. I spent $30 for a program that I pretty much used and enjoyed on one operating system and that's it. Not for nothing but I want to spend my time themeing and not spend my time trying to figure out what's new, how it works, what's buggy and what is no longer available. I know no one got rich of this software but I still feel that Andreas Verhoeven took the small bundle he/she made and left everyone hanging out in the wind with false promises of free upgrades for the life of the software that there was obviously no intention of.

Believe me, if I knew C++ or code and had the time I would be in elbow deep trying to help figure this out.

I'm just hoping that since Windows 10 is the last OS MS is putting out we can finally get a stable release of WSB and will be able to incorporate a decent looking taskbar into the msstyle without the use of third party software because Stardock will never see my business.

I finally got around to upgrading via media creation tool a Windows 7 virtual machine.
Everything is pretty much the same as clean install, except larger size and maybe a bit slower boot up.
I am experiencing a loss of fullscreen control as I was before, now I must reinstall.

Actually, I'm pleased to announce that almost everything in the theme and other Lamia 8.1 VC theme ports work nearly perfectly. I've got taskbar previews timed and disabled, and notification center (sometimes it's a pain) was working I believe, because I remember messing with Taskbar Colors a bit. Some control panel backgrounds like in System are ruined and the window caption buttons are a bit ruined but other than that it's good with RibbonDisabler rather than OldNewExplorer. Taskbar is ruined too, but what are you going to do? Taskbar colors can only work with varying success, your mileage may vary, etc.

You have to be using Taskbar Color Effects. It does work, but it's very temperamental. Have you tried restarting it or changing your taskbar color in StartIsBack?

hunterk11 was just wondering about how the Aero Glass watermark and nag screen work on Windows 10 and he pmd me about it.
Well, in short the same complicated way it worked on Windows 8.
You have to go to the official Aero Glass website and donate an amount of euros (5 is safe) to the developer, Big Muscle.
It's good to mention it because people not familiar with Aero Glass on Windows 8 might not understand. You will then receive a thank you email.
You will now have the ability to go to the Aero Glass website, navigate to the Support tab, and at the very bottom of the screen "Log into your support profile".
Here you'll find some donation.key's, download one and put it in your AeroGlass folder so the program reads the donation at initiation and removes the nag screen and watermark.

I was going through MrGrims latest theme (Windows 10 black) and went through the extras folder and found a transparency.exe that does the same thing as aero-glass, atleast as far as I need. ^_^ Yay MrGrim

Thats the taskbar image i mentioned in my post. i just used SiB++ to make taskbar completely transparent and then applied the "ROG Tweaked by 8pecxstudios" image from Shemamforash's Windows 7 taskbar image pack through Taskbar Color Effects.

Here is another theme I have imported to windows 10, I found out that windows 7 themes are better to import as it doesn't require you to add all the extra classes manually and also you get the new Windows 10 animations, still a few bugs to work out with the taskbar and areo peak preview but better results then using a windows 8 theme.

Anyway here is Equinox imported directly from Windows 7 and no the taskbar is still not themeable, this is the taskbar color effects again, I also set the normal taskbar background 100% transparent using option in SiB

actually 8.1 boots faster than 7. overall features and performance is better than 7. as for 10 it's biggest issue is the invasion of privacy, but i have a fantastic little toy to fix that. as far as boot according to 2 apps i but in in under a minute on an old intel core2duo e8400 system with only 4gigs of memory.

8.1 boots faster then 7 by one or 2 seconds only if you are running a SATA or IDE as your main HDD but throw in an SSD and there is no difference in boot time at all. Performance wise it is slower in every aspect compared to windows 7 and that's after doing heavy duty benchmarking on a supped up 8 core rig with 16 gigs of ram. Windows 10 does offer better speed then windows 7 on boot and performance wise but not by much considering windows 7 is already a six year old OS and the windows 10 minimal speed advantage is only available if your motherboard offers the upgrade to the "New Tech" if it does not then you will see that windows 10 is a lot slower then windows 7.

I really don't know what you mean by "Glitchie"? other than the custom theme aspect of Windows 10, I think Windows 10 was and is in far better shape than Windows 8 was on it's release, everything that I have installed and used on it so far other than Rollback Rx and that was their ill preparedness for the OS and not mine, but every single thing I have installed on it so far as software goes works just fine.

As far as boot time goes, to be perfectly honest I don't have to have a system that boots in the blink of an eye but I can say my Windows 10 boots in well under 30 seconds but then so did Windows 8 and 8.1 and 8.1.1 on my machine, Windows 7 didn't have fast boot so it took slightly longer but I never really timed it. The only thing I care about is when I walk in the door and turn my system on is that it be ready by the time I get comfortable and grab a cup of Joe.

But "Glitchie" ? as far as the base OS goes, I don't see it, now if you talking about installing and using custom themes, then right now until things in the custom themeing community get figured out as far as Windows 10 goes then yes it can be a little glitchie at times but it comes with the territory, but hey, it's one of the things that happens with the advancement of technology.

lol bud not that I want to seem like I am a basher cause I still favor Windows 7 over 8 and 10 and more so because of it's ability to be easily customized without breaking things by just installing updates or having to run a lot of extra apps like the new OS's do to make them look like good old win 7 did not to mention with each new os that MS puts out they take away things to customize or make it harder to do so:). I have always said I would give up a bit of performance to have a real slick looking OS and there is nothing that most people do on a daily basis on Windows 8 or 10 that you cannot do on Windows 7 so keeping up with new tech is totally optional I have an old saying myself like your Mom's saying that says a lot lol

Bud yep I agree to each person their own on what OS works best for them we are all different in how we use our os and what we do with it and how we make it look so it's what works best for you and yes win 8, 8.1 and win 10 were and are quite the challenge. Back in the day of making my own custom os's I used to love that as well but these days I would rather be using my OS over fixing it all the time.

Although I do differ with you on one point there about Win 10 being easier to customize and tweak then Win 7 and running less apps to customize it Win 7 all I need is universal theme patcher and Theme resource changer installed and use ipack now over 7tsp for icons as ipack can see if your using x86 or and x64 os and in the case of x64 will do the 64bit dlls as well also it installs all icons for all the applications you use in your os as well in the package if your wanting to change those without having to do those on your own anymore, it also allows you to uninstall all icon packs from control panel add remove applications. That's all that's needed for a full custom os on Win 7 ( blackglass enhanced if you want glass windows I don't use that myself) as for tweaking on install I run one reg script I have created to add all tweaks and turn on or off any services or processes I need for tweaking the only one I have to go in and do manually is turing off the default windows defrag task otherwise its a 2 sec reg script install and it's all done.

For win 10 you need all that or wel uxstyle core for the themes, a start is back, aero glass, taskbar tweakers, old new explorer and there is a number more tweaking apps that need to be run for diff stuff so custo wise and tweak wise win 7 is much easier :)

What i mean by Glitchie is some programs that i need to run are not compatible as of yet with Windows 10, and i know it still needs thing to get figured out for tweaks and Themes, Besides that Windows 10 is great but i have 6 PC and This one right here has 24 gig of ram basically this Computer i'm using it's a Super Gaming Computer, and Windows 7 Runs better on it, and my others are on Windows 10

now Windows 8 or 8.1 i never did like it my wife has that on her laptop, well she did now shes on Windows 10, And i Know with time Windows 10 will get better , Like when Windows 7 first came out had a lot of bugs then came SP1 and fixed a lot of issues on Windows 7,

So Windows 10 is like how Windows 7 started out and i know it will get fixed just like they Did with Windows 7, But more of the reason to go back to Windows 7 is programs that don't work as of yet on Windows 10, So that's what i ment about Glitchie,
In dew time Windows 10 will get more bugs fixed , but for now i will stick with Windows 7 , oh btw 2 seconds my boot up lol on Windows 7, you don't even get to see the Windows 7 Logo when turning on or rebooting might see it a split second but thats it !

Just an update here, I have disabled Windows Updates in my W7 upgraded VM since themes aren't working on the latest builds right now. Staying with Build 10240 works for me. I finally got around to using Winaero Tweaker, as I've given up on Guest Additions in my VM working on reboot and now live with having to reinstall them every time I want fullscreen. UWT4 for Windows 10 actually doesn't have many features I'm that interested in, this may because I'm on a VM though. When I used W8.1 Ultimate Windows Tweaker was one of my favorites though. That's my foobar2000 assembly on the screen.

I did a clean install of Build 10586 and I have to say, even though themes are broken for now, it's not all bad. I'm pleased to announce, 7tsp continues to work flawlessly. I'm hoping BGE works well in Big Muscle's installer release, for me it's not working perfectly at this stage. I also found I had to install Ribbon Disabler IN ADDITION to OldNewExplorer to remove the ribbon. Finally, my personal issues with Winaero Tweaker and the Guest Additions being broken have been resolved with this build (in regards to a VM).

I don't think MS is taking away the ability to theme Windows 10, however I do think the conventional way of themeing we all know through WSB and it's locations are going to have to be re-learned.

HOW TO INSTALL

Patch your system using UltraUXThemePatcher - https://www.syssel.net/hoefs/software_uxtheme.php?lang=en

You'll have to take ownership of certain files, use the included reg hack to install take ownership to your context menu!

1. First make a backup of the aerolite.msstyles file located in Windows\Resources\Themes\aero folder. Rename it to aerolite.msstyles.bak

2. Make a backup of your shellsyle.dll located in Windows\Resources\Themes\aero\Shell\NormalColor folder. Rename it to shellsyle.dll.bak

3. Place the Metro X.theme file in your Windows\Resources\Themes\ folder

4. Place the aerolite.msstyles file from the downloaded Metro X folder into your Windows\Resources\Themes\aero folder.

5. Place the shellstyle.dll file from the downloaded Metro X folder into your Windows\Resources\Themes\aero\Shell\NormalColor folder.

Apply theme as normal through Personalize settings.

He is talking about cleodesktop and yes hunterk11 is right, the After Dark CC theme may be posted on DA but the authors DA download link takes you to the cleodesktop site so you can be served with a plethora of ads and popups, so if you don't have an add / popup blocker your probably going to be bombarded. Actually, nothing on the artists DA page is actually served or downloadable from DA, it ALL takes you to cleodesktop.
I don't know about others here but I wouldn't touch anything on cleodesktop with a twenty foot stick. The site is very deceiving and there have been other artists stolen themes posted there also.
The site is not family friendly also, so should you decide to surf it, do so without kids or the wife in the room.

Yeah, I was thinking it was, maybe when BM releases the installer it will go away then.

BRICKED! I followed the instructions, and Explorer had only a dark title bar. I THEN selected Mr Grims' aqua theme and the screen flashed gray and not gray continuously. I don't remember the not gray color. A reboot resulted in the same. It's not a big deal, it was an upgrade to 1511 on my ssd. I was planning a clean install anyway. So here I am on a clean 1511, no dark explorer. upside down smiley face.

No older themes will work with the TH2 Fall Update, make sure you only use themes that specify they are for the TH2 Fall Update 10586 AKA 1511

Ok here goes, do this AT YOUR OWN RISK and make a backup beforehand.
1. Download this file: http://www.mediafire.com/download/md38z4dczd8oaia/Theme+Patcher.rar
2. Install UxStyle_0242_x86_x64_preview (Run ad admin...)
3. Install UltraUXThemePatcher_3.0.4 (Run as admin...)
4. Restart
5. Download and install TakeOwnershipEx http://winaero.com/download.php?view.16
6. Open folder system32 search with keys "Themeui.dll", right click the file select Take ownership & rename "themeui.dll" to "themeui.dll.del"
7. In system32 search with keys "uxinit.dll", right click the file select Take ownership & rename "uxinit.dll" to "uxinit.dll.del"
8. In system32 search with keys "uxtheme.dll", right click the file select Take ownership & rename "uxtheme.dll" to "uxtheme.dll.del"
9. Copy all three files from Theme Patcher\File Patch (dependent on your architecture) into system32.
That's it!

I have a disclaimer saying it's at your own risk. A bit more information would be nice, such as what browser are you using and does the "hijack" just redirect your homepage? I have not experienced any "hijack" and no browser even Edge and IE have had their homepage redirected. It would appear you've already posted in a thread online located here https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1453808 so maybe there will be something more useful for you there as I've not heard of anyone having a "hijacked" browser on VC.

The reason I posted here is becasue the 'theme patcher' file you link to is exactly the same I downloaded from cleodesktops, hence my comment.

Ok, sounds good. You are correct, the theme patcher is from cleodesktop. However, after I replied to you I realized that the OP of that thread on facepunch had that problem with the "hijacking" in March of 2015, much earlier than when the patcher for build 10586 was released, leading me to believe it is highly likely that it is caused by something else.

But I just tried and I can't test it, as UltraUXthempatcher is refusing to install on a system that is already running 10586.
