good day from what i'm seeing with your other post you are running either 10240 or 10586, this set of themes in this particular thread are designed for 14393 aka the upcoming anniversary update for win 10. browse grims themes and you'll find the ones meant for the win 10 build you are actually running. or you could download and install dhjohns auto-installer for these themes. his installer will give you a choice to install for whichever build of 10 you are running. if you decide to use the auto-installer make sure before doing so to revert to the default win 10 theme, and then uninstall whatever you installed to patch your system to be able to use custom themes. need anymore help just holler.

Once again, thank you for all your efforts. I copied your new version to the themes folder and they worked perfect. I am using the take ownership/ replace files method (already in place). Will this be necessary when I clean install Redstone?

This version is for Redstone only, it should not even work on TH2, the aerolite.msstyles method was only for TH2 in Redstone you can use the regular theme folder and either an updated theme patcher or Uxstyle or Theme Signature Bypass, I use both of the latter as I find my themes more stable when using both.

When you do an upgrade from a previous insider build, those system files get restored, so the files you previously modified will be the default ones.

One last question i promise! The Black Edition Blue theme makes the background color of the URL bar BLACK in chrome but its white in every other browser, is there anyway to make this the normal color while maintaining the theme?

OK here is how you do that, I found the solution on another forum:

"Windows key + R, type in and run regedit.

The section you want is under "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Colors", and the option to change is "Window". These are all in RGB number values, so you need to find the value of the colour you want to use. So, 0 0 0 would be black (again, change your text colour first to something other than white until after you've changed the background to black) while 255 255 255 is white. I would suggest trying 128 128 128 or 192 192 192 which would give you either dark or light grey respectfully. Just remember that technically you are changing the value for window backgrounds, so that might include the Windows address bar too (it does this on Windows 7 for almost all address bars, but what it affects in Windows 8 varies.. it does it on some bars, but not on others like the main address bar for My Computer). After that just logout."

Before:
74787

After:
74788

This will cause some backgrounds in other locations to change as well. You will have to redo this reg tweak every time you switch themes. The omnibar background can't be changed using a different chrome theme.

Thanks for helping me mate, but it seems its not worth to change it because it ruins the theme everywhere else, I'm going to leave it as it is.

However is there a way to make the entire url text bold on chrome? Only the main URL is easily visible but the rest isn't.

Yeah for sure, that's why I suggested changing to a higher dpi as it will be one of the common characteristics of chrome, something hardcoded that needs to be compiled from source to have changed.

I know that StartIsBack is suggested for themes, but I like the updated start menu that the anniversary update provided. I was wondering why my start menu tiles all become blue when activating the Windows Black Edition v3 theme. Here's what that looks like:

https://i.imgur.com/tkmmumu.png

If I try to change it in the windows settings, the explorer's color also changes.

https://i.imgur.com/59QXohV.png

I've also using Winaero Tweaker to add a custom accent color, but that setting doesn't seem to work correctly. Does anyone know how I can change the tiles to a dark gray color to match the rest of the theme? Small question: What's the difference between Windows Black Edition v2 and Windows Black Edition v3?

I have a better option to set the tile and accent color while leaving the window border colors as they are.

Go to run by pressing Windows Logo Key + R

type gpedit.msc and press Enter

Navigate to: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel > Personalization

Double click on Force a specific Background and accent color

Now change it to enabled and set the colors you want, I also found by setting this to enabled the transparency slider works again.

74835

Accent Color is what you need to change for the Tiles and other settings colors.

The other Start Background Color only seems to change the screen color when you change themes, this can be a bit buggy though, the first time I set the RGB to #ff0000 and it stayed blue but when I set the RGB to #f00 it changed to red.

Yeah it's a pain in the ass, I have been trying to figure out why it wont change, the start background color seems to change fine, that's the color on the screen when you change a theme but the other one doesn't seem to be consistent at all, I found if you set the color you want in the normal settings first and then enable this group policy it seems to work a bit better.

I also found out a way to do it in the registry as well.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Personalization]
"PersonalColors_Background"="#000000"
"PersonalColors_Accent"="#99000d"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Personalization]
"PersonalColors_Background"="#000000"
"PersonalColors_Accent"="#99000d"

Doesn't seem to matter what color value you chose though, if I set the color in setting first though and then apply the registry setting it will stick on the color I pick in the settings, then apply your theme again and the borders will be adjustable in the personalization menu but the tile color setting will stay the same, that's not the best theme to test on though, you might want to try on a theme with some transparency.

Oh and one other thing I might mention if you want to have a black color on the sign in screen and on the tiles then change the PersonalColors_Accent to "PersonalColors_Accent"=""

It will also change the color on the taskbar items as well to a grey color, as far as I know this is the only way you can select a black accent.

I got the start menu background (Please wait background) color turned to black. Like you said, that one is consistent. But even with the your text copied into a .reg file and merged the tiles are still blue. I'm currently trying to get it to work using Black Edition. First I changed the accent color in settings, than re-enabled the group policy setting (noticed the settings accent turned back to blue after this), merged the reg file and still not working.

If you are going to use the reg settings then you can change the group policy setting back to default, the reg settings will work fine on their own, well at least as good as the group policy, at least the registry settings are easier to play with.

That's how the default start button works on 10, it uses the accent color as the hover color, the only way to have a proper start button is with SiB

I found a good way to set this color now as well, set the color you want first in the settings and then apply the registry settings, you don't need to pick a color just have it as "PersonalColors_Accent"="#" and then sign out and sign in again and it should work fairly consistently.

Not sure why, but everything reverts to blue if I use "PersonalColors_Accent"="#" or if I use the first code with red you wrote. I apply a color first in settings, then merge the reg file and logout (they don't make it easy to log out it's 4 far apart clicks) log back in and everything's blue.

Try again but first remove the reg settings, easy way to do that it with a reg setting

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Personalization]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Personalization]

Then log out so you make sure it has returned to normal first, then go to settings and change the color you want, then try using the registry settings again and then sign out, the other alternative is to restart explorer.

I posted a message on Winaero about this setting as well so maybe Sergey can figure out a better way of getting it to apply.

Okay now I have it, here is a complete guide, if you have already applied it then first remove it with the following registry setting.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Personalization]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Personalization]

Now you need to restart Explorer

Now open Settings > Personalization > Colors

Now apply the registry settings with the following. (Set the PersonalColors_Background rgb to what ever you prefer)

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Personalization]
"PersonalColors_Background"="#000000"
"PersonalColors_Accent"="#"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Personalization]
"PersonalColors_Background"="#000000"
"PersonalColors_Accent"="#"

Now in Settings > Personalization > Colors pick the color you want for your tiles, it should stick on the first color you pick and you will not be able to change it again.

Now go back to Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Personalization\Color and set the border color for your theme, or just reapply the theme.

If you want it Black then remove the # from the registry setting, apply the registry settings and restart explorer.

OK. Thanks for this guide, I'm happy enough with the one that turns everything all black. One of the things I've always wanted was the ability to change the color of the taskbar thumbnails line to grey or white so that is also a nice feature of that one with "PersonalColors_Accent"="".

Make sure you have patched your system correctly, looks like you have not installed Uxstyle or Ultra UXtheme Patcher, either one should be fine.

I have a bit of a problem. I've installed the themes, but unfortunately it still leaves parts unthemed or the wrong color. I'm not quite sure what I've done incorrectly. As you can see in the screenshot the main window of the explorer is far too dark, and the left bar of the control panel is still white.

Aero Glass isn't working properly, you will need to use the latest experimental build for RS1 and blur radius needs to be at least 1.

Hi Grimm, good work on updating the Theme for the new windows version, like always :D

We just have a problem with applying it correctly, we have tried both manual install and the all in one installer of the programs that is needed to get it to work, but all the time we don't get the correct collors on the taskbar, startmenu and system text, as shown in the images here below. When doing the manual install we have tried using just the UXstyles, UXStyles + UltraThemePatcher and UXstyles + UlatraThemePatcher + Theme Signature Bypass. All give the same result, everthing looks exaclty like is should except the above mentioned color problems. All input on what we are doing wrong is helpful. We are on version 1607 14393.187 and the Black Theme V1

The only way to set the colors for the taskbar and start menu is with StartIsBack, you may also want to look at Aero Glass http://virtualcustoms.net/showthread.php/72751-Aero-Glass-for-Windows-10-RS1-Experimental-builds and the custom reg settings I gave there to color the window frames.

Oh ok, so this is new with the 1607 update then? Because it worked fine before without StartIsBack and AeroGlass.
Or have we missed something else?

This is more of a warning than a cry for help. I clean installed 14942 and nothing works except the wallpaper. This started with bricking the last 2 builds, 14931 and 14936 during the update. I was using the all in one, and hopefully THAT was the problem. Anyway, the aio, ux and bypass will not work. I will probably clean install 14936 tomorrow without the aio and wait for the update.

Im having a weird problem, theme works just fine until I press Ctrl + Alt + Del

My WinVer is: 1607 (OS Build 14393.447)
Already installed OldNewExplorer
Themes are installed where they have to be (C:\Windows\Resources\Themes)
Patched using Installer UltraUXThemePatcher_3.1.4

So... when I press Ctrl + Alt + Del, some parts are reverted back to white. Let me show you an example.

This is how it looks before doing it.

https://i.imgsafe.org/fa8aeeb1d9.png

As soon as I press the key combination, task manager looks like this:

https://i.imgsafe.org/fa8af129a4.png

And the other Properties Window turns like this:

https://i.imgsafe.org/fa8af3c1de.png

And when saving files, I see this dark black in bg sometimes (other times is dark gray):

https://i.imgsafe.org/fa8b01791f.png

Can I get some help with this. Ctrl + Alt + Del is what makes the theme "crash"

Try this :

Getting rid of white areas in themes after coming out of lock or sleep in Windows 8.1 / 10

First open Registry Editor by clicking on the start menu, click run, then type "regedit" without the quotes and hit enter.

Windows 8 and 10 loads defaults from [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes\DefaultColors] after every lock/sleep/hibernate.
Make a backup of that key, take ownership of it, and then delete that whole key (defualtcolors).
Exit Registry Editor.

Let me know if that works.

That happens on every theme, doesnt matter versions.
Dont press that combination or "Win + L" for example; if you want to open taskmanager you can right click taskbar and select it or "Ctrl + Shift + Esc"
-----
What i do to fix this is: on taskmanager > Services > "unsignedThemes" right click > Restart > now change themes until its ok.

I also have WIN 64bit Pro, and also tried all the things from scratch. Nothing helps, when I set black theme, color sticks to blue no matter what (on lockscreen and logout/login/shutdown screen). When I press win + L to lock the screen, opened windows will have blue bar on top, instead of grey which I used. When I reapply it after comming back from lockscreen, it works until I lock again.. Really annoying.

Just check attachments, before pressing ctrl+alt+del and after. When window with color choosing is open, then it sets immediately back to my selected one, but when it is closed (like on the after.png screen) it is set to blue instead.

That is probably related to the fact that blue is the default color for the black edition theme. How can I change that? Is there any editor that I can use to adjust it?

Rusomuscle

After using the AIO Installer, the problem with some parts of the theme going back to white is now fixed.

Edit: What actually "fixed" it, was removing the DefaultColors Key from registry, as Dark Knight suggested.

But now this is what happens: Title Bar and those thin lines around the window change to blue. (When using Ctrl+Alt+Del)

Hello Mr GRiM I have been trying several different themes since upgrading from 8.1 where i used this (http://ezio.deviantart.com/art/Abisso-2014-dark-theme-Windows-8-1-Update1-Upd11-418540806) theme, and now your theme is the closest to what I want from what I've found on this website, it's very clean with no unnecessary elements or colors (I'm running black edition v1(can't tell if there is any difference between standard or mix)). The only problem i have however is that some of the colors aren't true #000000 BLACK, they are more dark grey.

I was wondering if it's possible to get this theme more #000 focused and maybe even create an offshoot deep black edition.

As you can see in the theme i used previously it was full on #000 black and i loved it, however the creator doesn't seem to want to make it compatible with windows 10 so i'm making do with what i can find.

If this is too much work to just make a custom theme for me I am willing to pay for it to be done.

I don't want anything crazy like those from the VC Shop I just want a simple black #000 theme.

I wasn't sure if i should post in this topic or PM you since you said to post support questions in the topics themselves but I'm not sure this classifies as support or a commission/request

Thanks

Check out the Consolidated Dark Theme. http://virtualcustoms.net/showthread.php/74327-Consolidated-Dark-for-Windows-10-Anniversary-Update?highlight=consolidated+dark

I have tried that theme and it has some really goofy borders on some of my applications as well as a white border on all windows that are not maximized.

heres an example
http://puu.sh/sNiBm/618ea813cd.png

I dont want these white borders at all, maybe if they were really dark like #1a1a1a. The closest theme to full black that i could find was the thinwhiteline (http://virtualcustoms.net/showthread.php/72630-Thin-White-Line-for-Windows-10-Anniversary-Update) but i thought mr grims theme was cleaner so i thought it would be simpler to just change some colours around on this theme then to ask for the thinwhiteline to be changed completely

Just curious is these suppose to be themes also? I'm using Black Edition Red Mix. When I change color to red it makes top border red.

If you apply this registry edit before you open an Office document, you will have the Black theme.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common]
"UI Theme"=dword:00000004
"PendingUITheme"=-

Reply older post. Using Office 2013. Tried using that Reg edit. But the string will not stick. "UI Theme"=dword:00000004 also not sure what is the value for this. "PendingUITheme"=-. Please explain how to edit this string. Does this reg edit works for all themes?

I do not know about Office 2013. I am using this with 2016. The dword:00000004 is for the black theme, and the PendingUITheme=- keeps it from changing back to another theme. You can make a registry file, and a command prompt which runs it. Link your Office shortcut to that, and the regedit will run every time. I also have a vbs file which runs the cmd file so that the cmd window is invisible. If you are interested in the code let me know. You have to create these for all Office programs individually.

Yes please send it to me Thank. I see what you mean now.I named this file blacktheme.reg

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common]
"UI Theme"=dword:00000004
"PendingUITheme"=-

I named this file word.cmd

regedit.exe /S C:\Customizations\OfficeBlackTheme\blacktheme.reg
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\WINWORD.EXE"
regedit.exe /S C:\Customizations\OfficeBlackTheme\blacktheme.reg
and I named this file word.vbs

Dim WinScriptHost
Set WinScriptHost = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
WinScriptHost.Run Chr(34) & "C:\Customizations\OfficeBlackTheme\word.cmd" & Chr(34), 0
Set WinScriptHost = Nothing

You will need to edit paths as to where you have these files. Also change the command file for each Office Program you wish to open black. You should also change names of files to excel.cmd, powerpoint.cmd etc and likewise for vbs for your Office programs. It does take time but it works. Of course when you open a file without first opening program you will not have black.

Edit your program shortcuts to go to vbs file. Find file location from start menu, rightclick on shortcut and edit in properties.

Hello. A little while after I choose a theme, some areas in applications turn from dark to white. Is there a way to fix this?

It's because your system is going to sleep, hibernation or you have a screensaver activated and when Windows comes out of sleep or hibernation it wants to go back to it's default colors. Download and install the reg hack located in this thread http://virtualcustoms.net/showthread.php/72488-Installing-themes-on-Windows-10-Anniversary-Update-1607-Build-14393-10-Redstone-One/page19?p=322034#post322034 and it won't happen anymore.

Thank you for the reply. The reg file stopped the color change to white but now title bars turn to blue much the same way. In Settings > Personalization > Colors if I change the setting of Show color on title bar, the title bar will go back to black. After a while it turns blue again. If I again change the setting of Show color on title bar, the result is the same.

Update: The reg file seems to be working until I restart or log off. The next time I log in, I would need to reapply the reg file in order for it to work.
Also I'm not sure if this matters but I went to the location listed in the reg file and the folder does not exist even after I open the file and apply it to the registry. Nonetheless, it does work until I'm logged out of the user.

In order to correct that you need to be running AeroGlass http://www.glass8.eu/

Mind sharing what you did? I'm having a problem with AeroGlass as well.

The title bar and borders are gray now instead of blue.

My solution was for windows defaulting the title bars to blue after locking windows. Glass turned my title bars gray when I installed it. The GUI tool didn't work for me but I read you can change the color via the registry. I didn't get a chance to play with editing the colors this way. The GUI Tool is located on the download page under "Testing version of GUI application to modify Aero Glass parameters (http://www.glass8.eu/files/AeroGlassGUI.7z)." When I tried to download it using firefox, the file was corrupted and not extractable. I had to use edge.
http://www.glass8.eu/files/AeroGlassGUI.7z

If the tool doesn't change the colors for you then edit the registry.

First off, excellent work on the theme. I absolutely love it, especially when paired with gsw953 token light icon pack (http://virtualcustoms.net/showthread.php/74965-Windows-10-Token-Light-Icon-Pack). The method I used for install is the one you outlined here (http://virtualcustoms.net/showthread.php/72488-Installing-themes-on-Windows-10-Anniversary-Update-1607-Build-14393-10-Redstone-One), and I used UltraUXTheme Patcher (Not UXStyle because the way I understood it only 1 was needed. Am I wrong?), Old New Explorer, and the registry edits that were posted on this thread (to fix white after locking/sleep and to stop tiles/title bar from defaulting to blue). The issue I'm having now is any time I open a window that has a title there is a different color box around said title (Screenshot below). I hope I've outlined my issue well enough so that you understand the steps I've taken to get to this point in order to better assist me. Overall it's not a huge issue so don't go insane trying to fix it. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Thank you very much for uploading this Mr Grim, have had quite some dificulty finding a good theme. This one is real easy on the eyes! Much obliged :)

If i may ask for a small favor, would it be possible for you to upload the gray background image that you use for the Windows Explorer?
(to explain, i would like the background image currently set by your theme on Windows Explorer to be [additionally] my desktop background image. Easier on the eyes, as i tend to use explorer a lot and transitioning from one image/tone/hue to another a lot gets tiring)

Thanks for reading.

Hello. I installed this theme a while ago, and every time I use it, every color except for the orange one, in some text boxes, they are all black. Is there a way to fix this? Also, when I am taking a poll or survey online, the circles you are supposed to fill in are also black, and it is very hard to see whether you have filled them in or not.

you can do that, do what i suggested, or even download a theme that has been updated to work with creator's update and copy the shell folder from it and replace the one in this version of the theme.

is this just a temporary workaround or would it be the same as mr grim would do to an "updated version" for 1703 of this theme anyway

There would be some changes in a new version. You might not even notice them, hence why the theme still works on 1703 with an updated shell folder.

The Mix versions have a lighter background colour applied so when using MS Office apps the work area is not black but a lighter more work friendly colour.

Hi there;

The answer to your question is NO, or at least it will not work as intended. You MUST and HAVE to install themes that are ready for the version of your Operative System you are using. If you are using 'Windows 10 Creators Update 1703', then you must install ONLY themes from this section:

http://virtualcustoms.net/forumdisplay.php/1267-Themes-for-Windows-10-Creators-Update-%28Version-1703%29

Don't forget to READ ALL instructions in a very carefully way and to install ALL the PRE-REQUISITES before installing the themes, and then all will work flawless. ;)

Good luck on it.
