Windows 10, version 1607 is our third Windows 10 feature update released. Based on feedback from organizations moving to Windows 10, this will be our last feature update for 2016, with two additional feature updates expected in 2017.

This means Microsoft is planning the next feature update in early 2017. It is codenamed "Redstone 2". The second major update is also scheduled for 2017. It is codenamed "Redstone 3".

Redstone 2 will officially become Windows 10 Creators Update version 1703

Version 1703 indicated that Redstone 2 would be out by March next year, 2017.


Microsoft named the upcoming release as Windows 10 Creators Update and confirmed the release date. They also announced some new 3D technologies which will be introduced with the upcoming feature update:

- Virtual Reality (HoloLens will create a "hologram" out of 3D pics)
- 3D drawing in Paint 3D
- 3D in PowerPoint
- 3D emojis
- 3D scanning into Paint 3D
- ability to export creations from Minecraft into an online studio at Remix3D, export them to Paint 3D or 3D printed

Today, we got confirmation that build 15063 is the RTM (final) version of Windows 10 Creators Update. This build was released today by Microsoft to Slow Ring Insiders (http://winaero.com/blog/windows-10-build-15063-slow-ring/) and is now available on the Fast (http://winaero.com/blog/windows-10-build-15063-released/), Slow and Phone Rings along with a number of Xbox One update rings. This is proof that Windows 10 build 15063 is the RTM build.

Windows 10 Redstone 3 will arrive in September 2017


Microsoft has already released a bunch of preview builds for the next major Windows 10 update (codenamed Redstone 3) to Windows Insider Program members. They are now actively working on adding new features as well as those features which were postponed from previous releases. This includes the Project Neon system-wide redesign and the MyPeople bar. Previous rumors also suggested that the next update to Windows 10 may be released this autumn. A September release could also mean that most of the work on the update will be finished by the end of summer 2017 and it will be available to Windows Insiders a few weeks before the official release. However it's still possible that these dates may be shifted.

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is the Official Name for Redstone 3


At yesterday's Build 2017 event, Microsoft announced that the next major update to Windows 10, which is expected to be released in September 2017, has an official name. Previously known by its code name "Redstone 3", the release will be officially titled "Windows 10 Fall Creators Update".

At yesterday's Build 2017 event, Microsoft introduced it officially and also released an updated SDK for Universal App developers which supports new APIs. The new user experience APIs are called "Microsoft Fluent Design System".

RS3 might be called Autumn Creators Update in some parts of the world, due to a different time of season change.

Also Dark Knight (http://virtualcustoms.net/member.php/199178-Dark-Knight) that'll likely be only for modern apps if it does get added as a feature at all.

Working on it, I spent the last few hours downloading and installing the iso in VirtualBox. Hoping the shellstyle doesn't need to be updated.

I think the the best name for updates would be something along the lines of "Windows 10 Spring 2018 Update".
It should be out in April.
