Hi
Here are my thoughts upon personal use and experience .

- directory opus is by far the most powerful explorer replacement- downside = expensive .
- you can test grab others like :

ultra explorer , xyplorer ,clover , total commander , x²plorer and so on

My final choice since years is qttabbar

customizable , add tabs , extra panels ( vertical toolbar to add any shortcut , commandbars ) can display multi windows within one explorer instance ( horizontal and vertical ) , display previews of pictures, videos , text files just when hovering with mouse
It has its own launcher where you add your favorite apps on desktop so no need to use another third party tool , you get windows xp like cascading menus from any folder content

I own both opus and qttabs but the main feature of qttabbar is it integrates to windows explorer so nicely you don't feel like using a third tool , that is the main reason with so many features I use it daily and I don't want to fully replace the native explorer . otherwise what 's the point to use windows OS lol

Believe me , if you dig in with , you won't be disappointed

I'm at work but here is a link to my YTchannel and you can give a look at 05:27 to see it on my desktop and as it fits well despite my personal visual style

If you are an end user as I 'am with lot of files to manage go for it , if you just want some tabs go for clover 3.0 but IMO most of people don't know all qttabbar features :) I can hide all extra panels toolbars in just seconds if don't need , it support skins too and hotkeys

Good luck

In my personal opinion it would be the old faithful Total Commander hands down, it's not free but well worth the price and has been updated recently for Windows 10.
