I don't think any themes work very well on 4K with scalling sadly, this is one of the main reasons I went with a nice large 1440p monitor so I could keep scalling at 100%

Unfortunately there aren't many themes that work with the recommended scaling on 4k screen resolutions that I know of. I have to keep mine at a scale of 100% to make them work and unfortunately it makes the text extremely hard to see as my screen resolution is 3840x2460..... [virtual super resolution setting, but I like it better than the default 1920x1080]

noexpert here but i'm willing to bet if i unplug my monitor and hook up the 4k tv and leave it at the default setting they will work perfectly, after all all you're doing is going to a larger screen.

I think you missed the point entirely, no doubt if her 4K monitor was 65 inches like your TV she would be fine to leave the scalling at 100% but that is not the case.

Because the monitor she is using has much higher pixel density UI elements become smaller, this is why we have UI scalling and why her OS recommends switching to 300, I also recently got a 4K monitor, an Acer Predator that I got for the family PC, I soon realised it was a mistake and that I should have stuck to 1440p 2K instead.

Everything was too small and no games were going to play at 4K on a GTX 1060, all I ended up doing was setting the resolution to 1440p and set it to 100% dpi, yes the picture was not quite as crisp using the 1440p resolution but I found it a much better experience that I could live with.

I have ASUS ROG PG279Q 165hz 1440p 2K 27" Monitor and it is set to 100% (Recommended)

Higher 120Hz means better FPS 120fps Max so yeah I would go with the wqhd instead of 4K, maybe if you had like a 38" 4K then you might get away with 100% scalling but even then I think you would struggle as 4K is still twice the amount of Pixels, if you think of it this way, I have a 27" at 2K with 100% so for 4K 100% you would want double the screen size so about 55".
