Windows 10 RS6 1903 : important INFO for iconpack makers

Hi all

Wanted to share something I played with since I update to 1903 build .

MS changed most of resources/ assets location ( usually system 32/ syswow64 ) to put them now in

C:\windows\systemresources with new extension to work with files ".mun" instead of .mui (which still exist in system 32 & syswow64 sub folders )

So we can now edit icons from this sub folder and after testing it seems very easier to edit "shell32.dll.mun " for example and as safe than for .mui files.Another example is you have now WMPLOC.dll named wmploc.dll.mun to edit windows media player skin :)

Though I don't figure out what does mun means ( multinational user n ?? )

Maybe Mr Grim vould you pin this ?

Yes I am already aware of this, I did make a post about it a while back http://virtualcustoms.net/showthread.php/80555-Windows-10-Insider-Preview-Screenshots?p=340222&viewfull=1#post340222, I have been doing it this way and I agree it seems a far better way, no digital signatures to worry about or syswow64 and system32 files to edit, there are still some files in system32 that contain icons but most have been relocated, I suspect in future Windows 10 builds this will contain all the UI and icon resources.

it still works under 7tsp , just change path resources and add res as usual according to new extension MUN so res files become for example : shell32.dll.mun.res

and now need to create specific and separate custom pack for
7tsp and iPack icon pack for w7
7tsp and iPack icon pack for w8 8.1 w10
7tsp and iPack icon pack for 19h1 and 20h2
because 7tsp and iPack for 19h1 and 20h2 not supportet w10 RS1-RS5

Hi! long time lurker, first time poster :)

So I´m facing a problem since I upgrade to W10 1903 and I think it´s related to this new files. In previous versions of Windows 10 I was using this tool made by neiio (and maintain by Niivu) https://www.deviantart.com/niivu/art/Blank-It-704326397 without problems.

But with this new update create a lot of problems in some way; some programs report a class not registered problem (rainmeter, when trying to execute a shell that open explorer or recycle bin...). Icon packs works well but this "Blank it" that mods the explorerframe.dll not so well.

So... my question, do you think it´s related? anyone can help with a solution to make it work? Thanks in advance

Sure it is related; Neiio tools looks for a former system folder to patch .

You now have to target mun files as mentionned in C:\windows\systemResources and particularly explorerframe.dll.mun

My bad Moon, I realized made some confusion with 2 differents tools : 7TSP and W7patcher I talked and using for now since I can patch the way I want system icons under 1903 easier.

Managed to make installer process from winrar SFX and also get the pack available in uninstall menu so all is fine.

So, I only need to modify those bitmap on the explorerframe.dll.mun with resource hacker and replace the file in the new folder. Or do I need to repack as ipack to install it? Thanks

Of course it's possible and iconpack maker is the best way IMO Already tried it to get things painless and ran smooth under RS6 :)

Me and Niivu try to do it with the explorerframe.dll.mun and we can´t. The software doesn´t seem to recognize the new systemresources path or something like that :/

is running new 7tsp Se7en Theme Source Patcher v0.6 2019 by Fixit (https://virtualcustoms.net/member.php/159280-Fixit)
fixed for working on windows 10 1903 19h1 or 19h2+ 20h2
iPack is very old and build 2.2 supported files only on TH2-RS5
