Windows 8 and 10 now you not need replace Shell32.dll files in Windows System directory
just download and install my modified versions of OldNewExplorer what you like
and now you can run all custom themes as TopShell or BottomShell

i am very glad you like it because this tutorial working only on windows 7

1. We'll have to edit "%windir%\System32\Shell32.dll" .

2. Now open the file in Resource Hacker / Restorator

3. Goto "View -> Find Text" (or press Ctrl + F). It'll open Find box.

4. Now type following String in textbox:





layoutpos="bottom"


5. Click on "Find Next" button and it'll show the line containing this text. It should be in UIFILE section.

6. You have to just replace "bottom" word with "top".

7. When you have done, click on "Compile Script" button.

8. Now press "F3" key and it'll show the next line containing the same text. Again do the same mentioned in 6th step.

9. Remember! You have to replace "bottom" word with "top" only in following locations (i.e. keys under UIFILE section):



3, 4, 5, 6, 19, 20, 21


10. If you also want to show the Details Pane at Top in Browse/Save/Open dialog boxes, then replace "bottom" word with "top" in 27 and 28 keys too.

11. That's it. You have done. Now save the file at some other location, for example in D: drive.

12. Rename original "Shell32.dll" file present in "System32" folder to "shell32_backup.dll".

13. Now copy your new modified "shell32.dll" file to "System32" folder.

14. Restart your system (http://www.askvg.com/how-to-move-show-details-pane-at-top-in-windows-vista-explorer/#) and after restart Windows will start using your new modified file and you'll get details pane at Top.

Yep, loving it. However I have some requests if possible? I have a screenshot of the TopShell with the areas I would like to see slightly modified marked in red and green. I have the changes I would like to see [if possible] also written in red and green om the areas I would like to see some slight changesto if possible.

basically the menu bar hides in the light mode but NOT in dark mode. I would like to see that fixed if possible. As for the areas in green, I would like to see those two on the bottom when the details pane is on top of possilbe.=)


I've alwasy liked TopShell themes for having the Details pane on top, but the bottom looks too empty when the other two areas are above the details pane unfortunately....

Ok so I just realized that hiding the menu bar in the dark mode only works iof the status bar is enabled..... soo now I know how to hide it in dark mode on the TopShell version. So maybe a fix is not entirely necessary for that. But would still be interesting to know why it's doing that, lol.

but i dont know if i really can replace all of this commands what you need because i am not the original creator of OldNewExplorer

Awesome ty. And as for the hide menu bar option, it actually doesnt work for me in topshell with the status bar inactive. That's the error I was reffering to in that. It only works in dark mode for me when the Status bar is enabled and active on the TopShell varient.

Looks like I might have fixed it... I attmepted to get the status bar onto the bottom by taking the bin from th bottomshell and merging it into topshell. Status bar stayed on top but menu bar apears to be fixed now.....

Ok so your new versions have alos fixed it. Albiet I think the grey status bar is showing up as unthemed white with no text for me and the default white is themeing but at the very least it's working for me now =) I think my system is simply reversing some things, lol. And yosh! Status bar on the bottom fixes the emty feeling from before so this is perfect! Ty for these =)
