How To Create Keyboard Shortcut To Open PC Settings In Windows 8
In Windows 8, settings are located in two places: in the Control Panel and PC settings. While the traditional Control Panel houses settings that existed from previous Windows versions, the new PC settings includes settings for features introduced with Windows 8.For instance, you can launch language settings, troubleshooting tools, mouse settings, device manager, and power settings by visiting the Control Panel. To configure picture password, create a PIN, launch Reset and Refresh PC, and personalize Start & logon screen you need to open PC settings.
While all settings can directly be launched from the Start screen as well, users need to open PC settings to configure some settings. Unlike the Control Panel, opening PC settings from desktop mode can take a little work. You have move your mouse cursor to the upper right of the screen to activate the Charms bar, click on Settings charm, and click on change PC settings.
Earlier this week, we showed you a quick way to open PC settings by pinning a shortcut of the same to both Start screen and Taskbar. If you are a keyboard addict and prefer opening PC settings with a keyboard shortcut, complete the given below steps to create a hotkey to open PC settings in Windows 8.
Step 1: First step is to download PC Settings zip file from here. Once downloaded, extract the zip file onto your desktop to get PC_Settings.exe file.
Step 2: Right-click on PC_Settings.exe file, click Create shortcut to have a shortcut on the desktop.
Step 3: Now, right-click on newly created PC_Settings shortcut and click Properties.
Step 4: Once you see Properties dialog, under Shortcut tab, in the Shortcut key box, enter a keyboard shortcut that you would like to assign as hotkey to launch PC settings. Note that you need to press a combination of Ctrl + Alt + you choice (for instance, Ctrl + Alt + P).
Step 5: Click Apply button. You are done! You can now try out the newly created hotkey.
If you don’t want to see PC settings file on your desktop, simply hide it (see how to hide files). You might want to pin Control Panel to the Start screen and taskbar in Windows 8.
