Alert Need help resolving an error with Windows 10

    Hello,

I've been having a rather annoying problem since the release of Cumulative Update KB3200970 for Windows 10 RS1. Simply put, it keeps failing. To make things worse, Microsoft still hasn't been any help. I've submitted the problem to them and neither they, nor anyone else on the support forums have been any help. Here is the error code I found in the event viewer for it.

    Error code : 0x8007007E

Can anyone please help me with this? Because I'm one of those people who prefers to get updates applied and done with as soon as possible so as to get them out of the way. This one is starting to seriously piss me off to be frank. It keeps popping up while I'm busy with my daily crap and naturally me being all OCD on update matters makes me have to stop what I'm doing every time so the computer can restart. Yet, each time the damn thing fails and has to revert the changes.

If anyone can please help me fix this BS I would be forever grateful because I'm pretty much ready to stick a firecracker in this damn laptop and blow it up.

Here is the Microsoft link to the cumulative update. Simply download it, and double click it to install.

I've already tried that method. It also keeps failing.

What is it exactly that you are trying to do? Are you trying to download the update? Are you running third party antivirus on your computer? I know you are getting the error, but when? Does it just pop up randomly?

It's the latest cumulative update for windows 10 rs1. I found the error code in the event viewer. basically it downloads the update and makes me restart my system to install it. It gets about 7% through the install and then restarts. It then gives the general update failure message and reverts. upon logging in i get a notification claiming updates could not be installed. looking in update history it says that Cumulative Update for Windows 10 RS1 x64 systems KB3200970 has failed.

I just had to trick my system into thinking my connection is a metered one to temporarily stop automatic updates until i can get this fixed. Hopefully someone here will figure this out, because Microsoft doesn't seem to know what the hell they're talking about. All they give me is useless outdated software that does nothing to fix it while claiming it SHOULD fix it. I really wish those asshats hadn't abandoned Windows 7. I would gladly downgrade to a fully activated copy of Windows 7 if it hadn't been frikkin' abandoned. Windows 10 has given me nothing but hell since it first came out [just like everything else that came after Windows 7].

Try saving this in notepad as a command file, and run as administrator. Restart, and try once more to MANUALLY install the update.

    Code:
    :startclean
    net stop wuauserv
    net stop bits

    RMDIR /S /Q "%Windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Download\"
    MKDIR "%Windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Download\"

    Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase

    net start wuauserv
    net start bits
