Trying to Resize 256px PNGs
I've been trying to update a Linux icon pack to use a different style of displaying the icon. Instead of using "scaled" style where the system chooses what size to use, I want to apply theme the way most well made icon sets do, where there is a folder for each icon size from 256 px down to 22px.
I have an issue with resizing the png from 256 to anything less than 128px. After that it becomes a blurry mess. I've tried using gimp, axialis icon workshop and PS (using the setting that says best for reduction) and they all seem to not work so well. Is there something else I can try? I've spent a long time trying to figure this out and have already recolored the icon set. Would it be better to copy/paste each smaller image from the original .ico? Thanks
Looks good (using the system scale icon set)
Looks bad (using the individual px size folders)

Thanks for the link. I might have noticed a slight change in a side by side comparison. It is a pain doing that one by one with each icon though
It seems that by changing the index.theme file the blurriness goes away for the most part. So maybe it wasn't the resizing after all causing the problem
I think that they're looking better now

It took me a long time, but I've found out that Axialis IconWorkshop is the best clarity for scaling down .pngs and for converting between .ico and .png quickly.
I used batch convert to .ico, select all the sizes I want for my .pngs, then batch convert to .png and select all image sizes. Then I'd get 4 or 5 folders of png sizes that all look as good as the images within the .ico.Last edited by Shemhamforash; March 24th, 2017 at 10:23 PM.
