How to enable classic Start menu
with Live Tiles on Windows 11



Windows 11 introduces a new Start menu that is similar to the one Microsoft was working on for Windows 10X
with a more straightforward interface that floats above the taskbar with rounded corners and features traditional icons and recent documents and folders.

Although the menu has a new fresh design, it’s not something that everyone wants since many users are comfortable
with the classic Start menu that appears from on the left side of the screen and features Live Tiles.

If you are among those users who like the classic menu, it is possible to bring it back on Windows 11 by editing the Registry (via Rafael Rivera).

In this guide, you will learn the steps to enable the classic Start menu with Live Tiles on Windows 11.

Warning: It’s very important to note that modifying the Windows Registry can cause serious problems if not used properly.
It’s assumed you know what you’re doing and that you have created a full backup of your system before proceeding.

Enable classic Start menu on Windows 11

To show the classic Start menu on Windows 11, use these steps:
1. Open Start on Windows 11.
2. Search for regedit and click the top result to open the app.
3. Browse the following path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
4. Right-click the Advanced key, select New, and click on DWORD (32-bit) Value.



5. Name the key Start_ShowClassicMode and press Enter.
Double-click the newly created DWORD and change its value from 0 to 1.



Click the OK button.
Restart the computer.

Once you complete the steps, the classic Start menu with Live Tiles will once again be available on Windows 11.

If you want to revert the changes, you can always follow the same instructions, but on step No. 4,
right-click the Start_ShowClassicMode DWORD and select the Delete button.
Although you can show the class menu, this workaround does not bring the classic taskbar with the elements align to the left.
However, if that’s something you want, you can align the app icons by opening
Settings > Personalization > Taskbar and selecting the Left option under the “Taskbar alignment” drop-down menu.
