Windows 7 Start Orb Changer is a free tiny portable tool that allows you to change your Windows 7 start orb with one click.

You can use Google to find start orb bitmaps and I have also added some start orb bitmaps in it.

There are two files in the archive:

Windows 7 Start Orb Changer.exe
and
r.exe

These two files should stay together otherwise it will not work.

It works with both Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit.

I think there is a Beta of Windows Blinds for 7 but you have to be one of their premium members to have access to it.

For a tutorial on changing the start button have a look here (http://creativx.net/forums/showthread.php?t=31), if you have any questions then ask the Bull, he does a great job making them and will do any requests that you want.

You can just right click the images and "Save As" making sure you save them as Bitmap Image or alternatively I will attach a zip for you to download.

There go to the tab "owner", then click "to modify".
There you selects you as new landlord, seen that it is not the case by default, then you accept.
You close completely quite windows properties, then you return to it to make your regulations of authorization.

You return to the "advanced" option of the tab "safety"("security") as just(right now).
( In the tab "Authorizations") You click on " to modify authorizations ", then on " Users (Ton-PC / you) ", and there you mark the compartment "to authorize" next to total control.
You accept everything, including the message preventing(warning) you of the danger to modify system files.

My request. Would it be possible to get a template for the text versions of your orbs? I'd like to add my own text but the glow makes the existing text difficult to remove. My skills at PS are not at the level yet to create them from scratch maintaining the feel. What is the font you used for the neo-ish looking Start text?

Hey, Im new here, and new to customizing windows vista/7, used xp mods before tho.

Im having a little bit of a problem getting the start buttons (psych0t1c's 7 button) to work right (7 Pro x64), there 'almost' working right, I just get a quick black square background when hovering over the start button - it vanishes very quickly, but its still annoying.

You can just right click them and save as but they need to be .bmp's so i converted them all and zipped them for ya I hope psych0t1c doesn't mind.

And about the orb bug on win7 pro, I don't know. I never had any problems with it. Make sure it's the right size. I read somewhere on seven forums that some computers orbs need to be a little bigger or a little smaller. ;)

Your welcome, you need Photoshop CS4 to save it as a 32bit bitmap, if you don't have then I can do it for you.

Done everything mentioned in the tutorial everything worked fine. Just that I used Anolis Resourcer in case of Restorator. The explorer.exe has been edited and when I try to execute the edited explorer after killing the original explorer. Nothing happens. I don't see anything on the screen. Until I kill the edited explorer and replace it again with the original explorer. Restarting the machine doesn't help either. I'm on Win 7 x64 with Kaspersky (it detected the edited the explorer as a virus). Any help!??

EDIT: I was trying to flash the orb with the RAZER one. I've fallen in love with it. Can't get it out of my mind. Looks uber cool with the Dark themes. Thanks for both the orb and theme Mr. GRIM!! :). Desperately looking for solutions.

Im having a little bit of a problem getting the start buttons (psych0t1c's 7 button) to work right (7 Pro x64), there 'almost' working right, I just get a quick black square background when hovering over the start button - it vanishes very quickly, but its still annoying.

It's because it was saved as a 24 bit instead of 32 bit bitmap, you need a program like Photoshop that can save them as a 32 Bit Bitmap.

There is no such thing as a 64bit Bitmap, they are the same on a x86 and a x64 OS and they all need to be saved as a 32Bit Bitmap, as that has the required Alpha channel to adjust the transparency.

You would be better off asking the guy who wrote the program to change the orbs as he would know what all the error messages are for, out of interest though, did you run the program as administrator and have you disabled UAC?

I have mine off and it worked fine for me so I was just trying to figure out if that may be a problem for you if you have it on.

Well. I turned it off, and still, it didnt work. I got like that. After I got these message I showed you earlier. I click continue. But the window which let me choose the location of the file doesn't disappear. So I click cancel. Then I got that. What do I have to to next or it will change the orb automatically at that point

That's all I did, select change Orb then you select the orb and hit enter and it automatically closes Explorer and then the Start explorer button lights up and you hit that and your done.

Did you do a restart after you disabled UAC? It might also help if you take ownership of explorer first as well as I had already done that from previous changes.

You see i used the program and this mysterious orb came out of nowhere... it is ALWAYS THERE!
I cannot get rid of it..i try changing explorer.exe's but when i end the process and re-run it mysterious orb is still there!

i'm going to go though the file and rename them better as soon as i get a chance. i'm a bit busy these days. if anyone else has the time let me know and ill pas the torch.. i plan on looking for more and then including it in the themes pack 2010 that i have up on demoniod. it's 2.5 gig of awsome themes and more...

it's every theme ive found for windows 7. 250 of them require no patch. the rest are in another folder and all that needs to be done is to copy them to the themes folder and run the UXthemes patch by Rafeal from over at Within Windows. 64 and 32 bit included. also included is dreamscene for windows 7, along with a bunch of dreams to use with it. also included is win7 logon changer to customize your start up.. most if not all are high res. for big desktops. i run in 1920x1200 and it all is based on that size for the most part.
there are instuctions for all of it ..

Well, there are acouple ways.

easyest is to download this.. then click "change orb" find the image i have provided after you saved it.. if done correctly it will automatically change your start orb.

Yesterday I read that on november 30th at an age of 69 Evil Knievel had passed away. I wouldn't call myself a fan of him. Actually I have never been a fan of anybody, and probably never will be. But there are certain people that, in my life have made an impression on me in some way and Evil Knievel has certainly been one of them. At a young age I already loved to make big jumps on my little motorbike and jump over fellow schoolmates with my bmx-bike, with my dad calling me a regular Evil Knievel. Back then I had no idea who that was (I called him Evil Kenievel) but I knew Evil Knievel stood for making crazy jumps. And offcourse hurting yourselve when you made a mess of your jump.

I think Evil Knievel was one of those men who came up with crazy ideas and made them happen. Or at least he tried to. Something I really admire. And in these stupid times where being filthy rich, having sex on tape or singing like a slaughtered pig on national tv makes you famous, I think having crazy ideas and making them reality is what should make you famous. That's why, in my book, I think Evil Knievel is a real hero. And that's the way I think he should be remembered. And one day I hope to be remembered like that too. :D

I hope to see people wearing his iconic getup in his honor for many years to come and that he will be remembered for the crazy things he has done. And I'll be drinking a nice cold beer in his name tonight.

claud, I'm pretty sure he used photoshop.

but theres a free program that will do just as good it's called "paint.net" google that download it and whala.. open the .bmp in paint.net and go to "Adjustments\hue and saturation" hope it helps.

I was wondering if any of you have ever seen the icon set "Litho" (http://iconfactory.com/freeware/preview/lit0). If not there's the link.
My question was though if anyone can make the Windows icon in that style into a start button.
I would like it "not" to have the glossy effect (just a plain matte image) since my taskbar is just matte black.
